Spider mites during flowering....HELP!!!!!

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by CA MMJ, Aug 30, 2010.

  1. Alright guys, I couldn't find the CB-80 Extra or Doktor Doom ANYWHERE. I went to Walmart, OSH, and my local nursery=/ Pretty surprised that it wasn't there.

What I DID pickup: Nature's Pest Fighter (For fruits and vegetables).

    Ingredients:
    Pyrethrins............1.40%
    Inert Ingredients...........98.60%.

Should I follow the directions on back for mixing?

Directions: Use 2 1/2 Tablespoons per gallon of water.

Sound good? This was pretty much the only choice I had, Sadly, as Neem oil, and some other expensive miticides/insecticides are wayyyyyy too much money, or just suck.

If anyone has any better ideas on how/what to mix it with, lemme know

  2. Im very surprised u couldnt find it. It can be ordered, but too much time.

Heres what I had in mind for u:

    Aerosol fogger - pyrethrum.
Big-ass black garbage bags. 1 per plant.
    Twist ties.
Stealthy night mission out to plants.
    Garbage bags over plants.
Twist tied to base of stalk.
Fog up into bag & tie.
    Leave sealed 1 hour.
    Mites dead.
Neem oil spray for preventative maintenance.

  3. I was too=/

Since I don't have time to order it, do you think i could do what you just said, except with a diluted solution of this Pyrethrin concentrate??????

  4. I wuz really hopin for u to have an aerosol.
Need something thats really gonna permeate the budz without wetting,
otherwize u know what will happen hey ??? Is good weather forecast for
your area for the next cuppla dayz ???

Me too =( How hard is it to get rid of spidermites? aha. Way harder than it needs to be apparently.

Whats considered good weather for you????

    Today: High: 89 - Low: 59
    Tomorrow:High: 100 - Low: 66
    Thursday:High: 100 - Low: 63
    Friday: High: 96 - Low: 60

I live in Wine Country by the way.

Oh, and sorry it took so long to reply. I got like 3 hours of sleep last night and passed out for a couple hours after i got the Pyrethrin concentrate thismorning

  6. No rain in the forecast will be sweet.
It will let the budz dry out some to keep the mold away.
Thats what Im more concerned with, believe it or not lol !!!

    Go for it my man.

For now, do as the label says.
I have a feeling one more application will be needed after this one - maybe. We'll see.

    Good vibes your way...

  7. Im actually very concerned of getting budrot too=( The buds are so beautiful, id hate to ruin them...

Anyways, thanks for the good vibes! I could use em. Luckily, there hasn't been much damage to the plant except a tad bit of stippling, so hopefully i can blast those fuckers away.

What time of day do you suggest I spray the plant?

  8. When that last glimmer of sun is just about to fall over the edge of the horizon...
Dusk lol. Dont mind me - some good lemon skunk :smoke::smoke::smoke:

  9. Hahahaha, alright, sounds good man. Ill let ya know how things go???

Don't worry, id be the same way if i had some ganj right now=p Sadly, I have to wait until tomorrow to call my delivery service (The AMAZING club ive been going to just changed the way they do things, pretty much sucks now). Oh well, at least i get to try some tinctures and some Kushtown soda!

  10. UPDATEEEEEEE!

Alright fella's, I sprayed thee crap out of my plant, bottom and top, shookoff the excess solution, then sprayed all the excess vegetation around my plant thoroughly (and i mean THOROUGHLY), and tomorrow morning I will be removing all of said vegetation so as not to promote unwanted pests near my plant. I think ive learned a lesson.....smear tanglefoot around the lip of your outdoor pots, and there will never be a problem=p

Anyways, im praying that this works/doesn't rot the bud out, but i don't think it will rot considering its supposed to be 80+ degrees from now till Friday.....

  11. What's up CA MMJ!

Neem Oil is a good soution to mites during flowering. It isn't a chemical pesticide, so it doesn't kill them, but it does make them bail from the plant. I guess they lose the desire to eat and reproduce because of the active chemical ingredient in the neem tree that has been used by natives for centuries, blah, blah, blah..... we all know the story, right? Anyway, I just applied a 1oz in a gallon of water with a touch of dish soap to my entire greenhouse because of some mites I saw on some lowers. In two days I will take a hose with a multi-selection nozzle on it and use the "mist" or "shower" setting to gently wash all the buds off. In 5 days I will do it again to get all the eggs that hatch.

Twice will do it, but don't make the mix too strong (1 ounce/gallon as directed) and NEVER spray them in the sunlight. Early morning is best so they have adequate time to dry before the sun cooks them (and you risk them molding if you spray at sundown).

Be sure to rinse them a couple of days later. And no matter what anyone says, our northern California outdoor plants can take a rinsing or two without destroying trichomes (after all, we have the best climate in the western hemisphere for growing huge, extremely potent marijuana plants). Just don't break trichs by using too much water pressure, and shake out the buds after you rinse them so you don't risk mold. Same rules apply to water: no direct sunlight on the wet leaves, and don't do it at night.

Inexpensive Dyna-Gro brand Neem workd great, and an 8 ounce bottle is about $9

Let me know which suggestion you use, because if you go with another method and it works well I would love to know. I have had bad luck with Azatrol and Pyrethrum during budding, but it may work for someone else...

    Peace out,
    Meanie:devious:

  12. Also, mites are tiny little bastards so you have to look very, very close. They hide in the veins too, so use the sunlight and check nooks and crannies.

  13. Good info bro but SMs will just laugh at u if youre only using Neem during an invasion.
Also, soapy formulas on budz is bad. There is a residual film left that just never washes off. It traps water underneath and mold appears (bud rot).

Neem is good during veg and for treating localized maladies during flower, but not the budz. Again, the oil does not wash off and water is trapped within the bud.

Sorry bro, but I have yet to see Neem do the job on SMs during flower.

Good luck to ya tho brotha !!!

  14. Hey Mr. Mean, Glad you could join us! I just sprayed my plant down thoroughly at the first sign of dusk last night with a pyrethrin/water solution. I made sure I shook the plant after, got all the excess moisture off. Anyways, just checked the plant thismorning! NO budmold!:hello:Also, it seems that all/most of the spider mites are gone! I am VERY happy with the results. I will probably spray again in 3-4 days just to be sure, but i think everythings gonna be smooth/er rolling from here on out!

@Freakbro....Thanks for the help dude! Couldn't of killed those bastards without you and Russy's help.....very much appreciated! I will be very happy when i can share my bud porn pictures with yall:smoke:

    Peace,
    CA-MMJ

  15. Please keep checking very closely with your magnifyer.
    Dont assume its over yet.

This is a temporary victory and the interim period now, for
the next 2 dayz will tell us if there is another battle to be
fought - or not. Most likely there will be.

We will now see how relilient this batch of SMs is.

Im glad - for now, bro :hello:.

    Good work.

Neem works great for me, but I am also very aware of what's going on with my plants so I never let them get too out of control. I'm sure if it were a true "infestation" I'd be screwed. The diligence of the grower, and surface area covered by the solution should take care of the mites with neem. If not, que sera sera.

It may very well be too late in budding to apply anything. In that case you have to pick the little fuckers off the best you can, and remove anything in the interior of the plant that they can feed on that is not really going to produce decent buds.

    edit:
Just noticed the pyrethrum worked, that is awesome! I'll just shut up then.... lol.

  17. @Freakbro....Yeah, I know they aren't totally gone yet. I will be doing another spraying in about 3 days, hopefully that'll get the rest of the little bastards. But as for last nights spraying, i consider it a success=D Oh, quick question. Do spider mites spread out a ton, or can you usually see multiples per leaf? The reason im asking is because i just checked a leaf and i saw a single black speck. Not sure if it was just dirt or a mite or what. God I need a better magnifying glass, this is getting annoying.

@Mr.Mean....I will definetely be spreading tanglefoot around the lips of my pots after this grow is over!

  18. Its varied. Its quite possible what u saw was a speck of their shit. They like to also collectively shit in the same spot.
SMs do what they want. They can be alone or usually in colonies, or small clusters interspersed among the leaves.

@ Mr Mean - please dont shut up. Many great battles are won by teamwork.

  19. Gotcha gotcha, Well Ill keep ya all posted=D I pray that i murder these bud-savages.

@Mr. Mean....Yeah, you gotta have a discussion to get the best possible solution

  20. I was mostly being facetious... I never shut up. But thanks!:D
