Watts vs. Lumens?

  1. I've have done quite a bit of reading and am now quite confused as what to do...

    1(27w 6500k) bulb kicks out 1600 Lumens.
    1(27w 2700k) bulb kicks out 1650 Lumens.

Have read 100-150 watts for 1 plant and 50 watts for each additional plant.(Minimum)
Have also read to be about 5k Lumens per plant

    6(27w) = 162 watts and ~9600 Lumens for 1 plant(nearly double the 5k Lumens)
    8(27w) = 216 watts and ~12800 Lumens for 2 plants.

I'm just wondering if i should base the lighting off Lumens or Watts?

  2. Just worry about watts, you wont be able to get too much lumens from CFL's.

just go by actual watts...its real rare for someone to have too much light....i also mix some 2700 with 6500 during veg and other way around for flower..a full spectrum kinda thing...about 25/75:smoking:you also need to check out what distance from plants does to light output...your not getting 1650 lumens from a 23 watt bulb unless you glue your plant to it...more like half that

  4. They lights are a little over 2 inches away from the plants and I read that a 2:1 ratio of daylight to softwhite spectrum for veg. and vice versa for flower was good. I'll be posting pics once I find my camera. Thanks for letting me know though.

  5. If you really want to know what's important with light you need to get out of watts and lumens and get into PAR and PPFD.
