seeds from hermaphrodite

  1. Is it true that if somebody grew a seed which came from a hermaphrodite plant, it will grow to be a hemie as well????

  2. No. In fact, if a female plant turns hermie, I believe she produces mainly (maybe even all?) female seeds.

  3. The answer actually is "it depends." Specifically, it depends on what kind of hermie, and you won't necessarily know the answer to that.

If it is hermie because of a genetic screw-up then yes most likely the seeds will produce hermies as well.

If it is hermie because of stress, again most likely the seeds will also produce hermies because they weren't formed properly due to the stress. However, when applied under certain conditions, stress can be used to induce female budsites to produce outwardly male flowers, the pollen of which is feminized (because those are the only genetics a female has to contribute), which then can be used to pollinate a different female, and that is one of the ways feminized seeds are produced.

But...it's tricky to stress the plant in a way that produces feminized pollen but does not screw up the production of it, that is why if you want feminized seeds (and believe me, you do) it is best to buy those from breeders. If it was easy to produce your own feminized seeds then don't you think there would be a sticky on here about how to do it? If hermies were like the goose that laid the golden egg then don't you think there would be a sticky on how to make your own hermie? And whenever someone posts that they have a hermie wouldn't other readers respond with congratulations instead of advice to trash it?

I can't judge your particular situation, but 99 out of 100 people who post on here about having a hermie should trash that plant because it will pollinate the rest of their grow and produce seeds that will turn hermie.

The only time I think it can be worth keeping a hermie is if it is your only plant, so no worries about pollinating anything else, and thus you could harvest the buds off the hermie for smoke.

  4. ah I see. So the hermie is in the trash. Thanks for the info

  5. Since we're talking about hermi seeds I've had some questions about them myself.

If you take a plant from a femenized seed, and then hermie the plant, will the seed be feminized? My guess no

Does the potency etc... of the original plant decrease from the seed?

  6. So a hermie will produce buds with THC and thus for you can smoke a hermies buds?

  7. In general you can smoke the bud from hermies, but keep in mind we are lumping together a whole class of deformities as if they were all the same thing. There are different kinds of hermies.

And I would not try to hermie a plant on purpose to get feminized pollen -- that is the underpinning of how breeders make femmed seeds, but it's much trickier than that.

  8. if you have a hermie can you just keep castrating it until it's ready to harvest so you don't get seedy bud or will that mess it up too much?

  9. me and my friend recently had a hermie plant, we just ripped the seeds off when we saw them.

  10. You can try that, but the pollen sacs can get to be a lot to contend with, and the act of plucking them can set the pollen loose, pollinating your female bud.

  11. what if i catch them early enough? im pretty sure that my auto blue mystic is a hermie, it's really weird because it's only like 3.5-4" tall but it's already flowering lol. this is gonna be a really shitty yield but it's my first grow and now i know not to fuck with auto's anymore :(

maybe i should just let it pollenate itself and go sow the seeds outside somewhere and forget about them
