400 LA MMJ Dispensaries to be shut down

  1. "A letter being finalized by the Los Angeles City Attorney's office will order the operators of about 400 illegal medical marijuana dispensaries to shut down by June 7, a spokesman said today."

Actual Article It's not a very lengthy article...

What do you guys think about this? Are they really trying to zone out the beautiful herb?:(

  2. Well.... there probably shouldn't be 400 dispensaries in a single city.... and they are all probably violating their local laws. There are many more than 400 in LA.

  3. exactly the first thing i thought....

  4. There might still be 130 dispensaries left if the article is right.

I should have read it more thoroughly.. :smoking:

  5. ok so it appears 186 dispensaries will be allowed to stay open because they were licensed before LA imposed a moratorium on dispensaries which means no licenses are allowed to be issued...

    its basically abunch of bullshit...

disp. owners that did open in compliance with the moratorium still have to jump through loops and arent even guaranteed their current locations...

they say 400 disp. that opened after the moratorium will be forced to shutdown

but according to the letter of the 186 disp that originally opened only 130 are still in operation

  6. that is so true
the whole dispensary scene really shouldnt exist to the extent that it does
i mean medical dispensaries making profit?
if it was pharmaceuticals, these forums would be ranting

  7. As to the pharmaceutical comment, it sounds like they have the same thing going on with dispensaries as there are with RX places down in Florida where you can get your perscription and drug fill at the same location. There are a TON of those places in FL. (yet they still are trying to ban bongs)

  8. Lol wow they have alot of despensaries.

    So jealous

I wish the ones who follow laws good luck.

  9. Just sounds like the ones being forced to close didn't follow protocol on opening up and operating in the guidelines laid out. Sucks to be happening but atleast something is going good for you guys out there.

  10. sheeeeit.
If you have watched Super High Me you would know about this, the numbers of dispensaries rose exponentially over a years time.

Honestly there shouldn't be 10 dispensaries on one block...i don't exactly disagree with the law, but then again there are so many because its a central area.

As to the Florida comment....i couldn't agree more. Florida is fucking corrupt as dick, I'M SURE THEY HAVE BIG POCKETS NOW *COUGH* MARLBORO*COUGH COUGH*

  11. damnit!

it seems as though colorado may be heading in this direction as well.

funny thing is, their are definitely 400 dispensaries here in colorado, most of those being right here in denver, but just think how much smaller denver is than LA.

  12. I dont agree with the law but as everyone else said, there should not be so many damn dispensaries in one city. DC has seen this and has actually put a limit on things. DC is only going to have 5 dispensaries and your only allowed 2 ounces of pot per month. 2 ounces of pot is plenty considering thats how much I used to smoke in a month and I was stoned 24/7 quite literally. I dont do that anymore though, but im just saying...there should be a limit because we dont need that many dispensories in one city and you cant deny the fact that people are selling the stuff on the side too. This is exactly why dc put those restrictions in place and I agree with it.

Another thing to take into account is that medical marijuana activists in LOS GANGALES claimed there were potentially up to 1000 dispensaries, licensed/moderated or not. The police commissioner accepted this number, saying that his anti gang and narcotics team found around 600, which in his opinion, and I quote "is good enough".

Now obviously I'm a supporter of medicinal marijuana, but honestly all these unregulated shops that are gaining media attention are just hurting our cause. I'd say Most pot activists say they would happily comply with regulation and law over marijuana as long as there is a compensation made (i.e. the ability to get a medical license). but if too many people start ignoring that silent agreement and don't follow regulation (I'm talking about places where medical is legal) then in my eyes there's a good chance that stricter legislation will be imposed.

Here's an example of what I mean.

In LA, as you all obviously know the dispensary shop skyrocketed since 2006-2007. Before the occurance of hundreds of shops, LA was pretty lenient on the dispensaries and the people using them. Now though, because the unregulated dispensarty count is so high they are starting to impose stricter rules. A news article I read even stated that LA is to put more police time and effort into regulating the dispensaries.
Things like this display to the non-smoking public that we can't regulate these dispensaries ourselves. It makes it look like the government needs to pour time and resources into regulating them for us....

    There, that's my rant.
    Feel free to agree/disagree.
