Can I tell my doctor I smoke?

  1. For the past few weeks i've had a very harsh cough and it just gets worse. I spoke with a physicians assistant I know while they weren't working and they are almost certain i have accute bronchitis. I want to know if when i go to my doctor, if i can tell them i smoke pot considering they usually ask those kind of questions. I want to make sure there will be no negative affects from me telling them this because i am in college still and on my parents healthcare plan so I was unsure if they could mention it to my parents or the healthcare company... any help would be great cuz i'm going in tomorrow morning

  2. idk my doctor told me that he did acid in the 60's and 70's (he was a hardcore deadhead and wears jerry garcia ties all the time)

and there is doctor-patient confidentality which means he cant tell anyone. he might tell you how "bad" it is but thats the worst

  3. if you are 18 they cannot tell your parents anything

  4. even when they pay for my insurance?

  5. doctor-patient confidentiality. he cant say anything

  6. Be straight up, he can't say shit unless you killed/raped someone. (seriously, it's the same as confessionals)

  7. I have told my doctor that I blaze, but I'm from Canada so it might be different, but I don't think a doctor is interested in getting you busted

  8. It would be irresponsible for you not to disclose that to your doctor.

  9. always be up strait with your doctor
they cant tell your rents about it unless you are under 18
they cant tell the cops without a warrant
the worst he'll prolly do us tell you to quit for a while, especially if it is bronchitis because smoking anything will just irritate it and make it worse

  10. They can't do shit about it unless it puts you or someone else in danger. And if they do you can sue.

  11. It's called HIPAA, it's a federal law protecting your medical records from any unauthorized person. You can certainly tell your doctor about your smoking, and there's not a thing they can do about it except give you the old 'pooh pooh' at which point I'd get a new doctor.

Doesn't matter if you're on your parent's insurance or not, but to be one the safe side, you may wish to double check with the office staff and let them know that you do not authorize anyone to review your records.

  12. You really should tell your doc, they're the ones that can help you fix that shit. And if they don't know why it's there in the first place then they can't help you as much. Point is doctors appreciate it when you're honest with them.

  13. wow thanks for all of the quick responses everyone. much appreciated. I will def tell my doctor that i blaze cuz it might have something to do with it. I blazed a few days after i had the flu and then my slight cough developed into this :(

    Thanks again to everyone
    Keep lightin that nug up!

  14. Not really, even in the confessional the preist wont tell if you admit to masterminding 9/11, they're weird like that.

  15. thats why doctors are great, you can tell them anything!

worst possible thing is a lecture on the dangers of weed.

  16. Even if you are under 18, if you ask to keep what you tell them confidential they have too. But no one on here is under 18, right?! But ya, they usually don't mind, the shit they prescribe to people can kill them, weed is a relief lol

  17. You can tell him, its no big deal.

You aren't going to get in legal trouble or anything, or dropped from insurance.

So many people in America smoke weed, it would blow your mind.

  18. i did.... and i told my lawyer for that matter my docter gave me that laugh that kinda meant "if you only knew" and my lawyer told me he "smoked the shit out of some joints in his day"
