Brown spots appearing all over fan leaves - 5 weeks into flower

Discussion in 'Sick Plants and Problems' started by johndon, Feb 11, 2016.

  1. Brown/yellow spots popping up all over fan leaves in a matter of a couple days. Not sure what this is, was thinking maybe cal/mag? I flushed a couple days ago with straight PH'd water + cal/mag and they really haven't looked much better...

  2. Bottom pic looks like cal/mag. The other pictures i have no idea. Flush 3/1 if your in soil and water like you did. Just got to wait a few days to see if you notice a change.

How much nutrients have you been giving them and how often do you feed vs straight water?

  3. I am feeding according to fox farm schedule (Grow Big, Big Bloom, Tiger Bloom) every other watering, and I'm watering every 4 days or so, basically when soil dry knuckle deep and pots are light. I PH my water to 6.0 - 6.3 after adding nutes. They are in 5 gallon buckets with 4 parts FF ocean forest 1 part perlite.

  4. 6.5 is a bit better number to be at 6.0 you start locking some nutes out. Also schedule from company is a guideline, each strain hell each pheno will prob require less or more ppm depending. 4 days seems pretty long. How's drainage holes in pots look? Also what's your RH

FF Ocean Forest is loaded with nutrients and shouldn't require additives for weeks.

Did you start feeding nutrients right after transplant into your ocean-perlite blend? If so, you may have hit them to hard and could get away with just plain water for a few weeks or more.

It looks like a phosphorus deficiency, btw. However with your feedings it must be due to your low pH.

One of my other plants is starting do to this shit too!!! :( I think I have in fact been keeping my PH a little low (I usually PH to 6.0). As for those asking me about the nutes on top of OF, I didn't start nutes til after a month of veg, because I know OF runs hot. Drainage holes are about drilled quarter inch and there's 10-12 of them on bottom of 5 gal home depot buckets, plus I have another 6 that goes around the bottom rim on the sides...

  7. I jimust agreed w myself. Must be an old post.

  8. This definitely looks like a phosphorous deficiency and PH problem.. I would drop pH to 6.5 if in soil/peat mixes or keep at 6.0 if in Hydro or soilless mediums! These problem will stop but these leaves will unfortunately remain damaged. Keep using cal mag and don't flush you have no sign of nutrient burns as far as I see.. check ur Ph and use proper PH down acids and Up alkaline solutions, not lemon juices or whatever as these often change in ph .. even over hours!

  9. That chart is not accurate but generally correct.. all nutrients can be absorbed between 6.3-6.8ph .. 6.5 is most ideal!

  10. I decided to look for answers already posted, and this seems to be the same thing happening on one of my plants. The Nectar line recommends PH between 6.0-6.2 during veg. Could this be part of the reason my fan leaves are getting spots like the above? Should I try upping to 6.5-ish instead?

  11. Brown spotting is not always due to deficiencies .. and if it were it would be more likely Calcium.. less likely boron.. or potassium. it can be due to water droplets on a leaf acting as mini magnifying glasses burning a leaf.. bad PH or simply a minor root or bug problem already rectified. Numerous explanations but I wouldn't worry.. this happens quite often as far as I've seen on here. Try keep ph at 6.4 to be safe since they have recommendations but ensure ur ph meter is accurate and get ph solutions 4 & 7 from a hydro store to calibrate ur ph meter. Plants have a small window for absorption and it's always good to keep ph reasonably close to 6.5 (6.3 to 6.8) but the recommendations you've stated suggest more acidic so try 6.4ph and add molasses and cal-mag supplements.
