Using leafly as reliable medical advice?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by BakedAsaNun, Feb 11, 2016.

  1. I have been a serious toker for many of my days now but have never really used it medicinally as i stay in an are where it is not legal in the slightest and have had to come up with other methods of sourcing my products and when it comes to your BHO etc make my own.

Recently i have developed what id call acid refux ( severe heartburn, struggling to swallow and not very great in the bathroom!) Sometimes this leaves me unable to eat or sleep which takes a big effect on my personal life and work life, i use the leafly app just as a cool little tool for quick searches but have realised it has alot of info on strains for medicinal purposes. Should i take this as truth or is their any other sites which will provide a more accurate say prescription of bud/edible/concentrate for certain ailments? I now have no trouble getting my hands on anything or making it myself.

What are your personal opinion on gathering medical information regarding strains and their medical benefits?

    Regards :D

It is my personal opinion that most of the medicinal benefits listed for various strains of cannabis are grossly exaggerated. I know that cannabis helps people greatly in some cases but it is by no means a cure-all and while it may relieve some symptoms, it can add other problems.

In the case of acid reflux (if that's what it is), I'd focus more on what you're eating and drinking that causes or contributes to the problem.

The medical benefits listed on leafly are pretty conservative but I don't see where it goes into how to use. Smoking a fat bowl of Blueberry Dream may give you energy for a short time but you'll pay for it in energy levels when you're coming down off of that high. Maybe the greatest fallacy is the dependence on the strain name solely. Try looking up the genetics behind any strain name from different breeders and see how similar or different they are...

    Green Crack...

DinaFem...1989 SSSC Skunk #1 and an Isolated Afghani Cut

Seedsman...'89 SSSC Skunk#1 crossed with a mysterious Californian Indica
Amsterdam Marijuana Seeds Co...cross with the original Chem Dawg F3 and our medijuana strain

  3. I believe Leafly is all crowd sourced data from users.
So Id consider it like yahoo answers, the information isnt necessarily wrong, but its closer to a collection of things someone once heard from someone once than any sort of concrete fact. Its a starting point for your own research.

What I will say is get your reflux checked out- my other half has gone through a similar thing, started as quite bad reflux under certain conditons, progressing to pretty dam bad all the time (even with all the dietry triggers avoided) and fucking debilitatingly bad if she tried any physical exertion. Theres loads of things that could cause it, several of which are pretty dam bad, if you can find out whats causing it rather than just try to medicate yourself- because theres no point in helping the symptoms for a period then finding out too late that it was a symptom of stomach cancer. Its taken her 18 months (since it became too bad for her to ignore and she had to quit a job) god knows how many doctors, 2 gastrocopys and a day with a pH probe shoved up her nose and into her stomach but they finally have a diagnosis and shes having surgery to treat it next week. If shed have started getting it looked into when it first started rather than ignoring it for so long she'd have had 8 months less in pain.

  4. Both replies very helpful. And i have recently changed my diet for the better. I am eating more healthy and with a better variety, although my condition seems to be worse? Sometimes drinking water even gives me heartburn. I have already been to the GP and got pills from him. The first course of pills were good. But second course has made it worse, am currently waiting to hear back for yet another appointment. I have just received a letter from work more or less saying iv got a meeting to get sacked even though im signed off from the docs, which of course is adding to stress which is what im originaly signed off with. Which doesnt help my stomach at all, i havebeen prescribed sleeping tabs as well but are as yet to of taken them. Should maybe find a strong indica instead
