Are any original strains around today?

  1. I see strains like ak47 and sour diesel. They are always different depending on the vendor.

Do you think or know of any strains that are the same strain from 20+ years ago? (More advanced now of course)

  2. Strains are whatever the breeder wishes to call them. You can have five different sour diesels that aren't even close to the same cross.

  3. I'm glad you see it my way. So many people try to say "its not sour d, sour d doesn't look like that" or "sour d smells different" "sour d is danker than that"

Alot of my dealers and many people on this forum are under this expectation. I'm glad we can clear up that strain name means nothing.

I thought i was a minority on this lol.

  4. Nirvana has been taking seeds from their mother of northern lights for over 20 years.
That original northern lights is probably the purest strain you'll ever get your hands on. Northern lights in Amsterdam has remained largely unchanged since the 70's when sinsemelia became popular.

  5. "Sure" ?
Well nirvana seeds has been selling seeds for ~ 25 years online and in Amsterdam for longer than that.

On Overgrow they advertised that their northern lights came from the 1989 Cannabis cup winner clone.

Which is as far back as I think anyone else has proven genetics. ...of the non-haze varieties of course. Because pure sativa (haze) in places like Jamaica do no experience hybrid vigor... they are essentially heirloom seeds.

Sounds damn sweet bro. Is it as dank as bud today?

If it is that may break the popular consensus of pre 90's bud being much less potent.

  7. If you study hybrid vigor ... how a "pure" indica can cross with a "Pure" sativa and make a hybrid.

If you look at genetics... Northern lights is used as a parent to create these hybrids in many many cannabis cup winners. It dominates the genetics in hybrids.

But mixing seeds from two hybrids will NOT produce hybrid vigor. Thats why its importabt to keep growing the oldest heirloom seeds as possible. Even if they dont yeild as much as the fancy hybrids.

Also... hermaphrodites weren't a big thing back then
... we all grew I never heard of a hermie until 99... and even then it was so rare compared to now.

I believe making hybrids of hybrids of hybrids has reduced the genetic variation in the plants.

And to grow the best marijuana you need a good mother northern lights... and something sativa to Mix it with.

  8. I believe I missed your point...

... I agree 90's bud was less dank ... but I 95% contribute that to worse growing conditions.

Even outdoor in british Columbia has evolved a lot in 20 years.

...and the indoor...or partly indoor game ? Its been revolutionized multitudes over.

So the bud is better now mostly because we grow it better. The rest of the world is quickly catching up to british columbia.

  9. Marijuana incest lol

I have pondered that. Sounds like a thing

Very interesting. And interesting that it's so dank. I will spread this knowledge in the future.
