Can I get some eyeballs on my plant - help sexing please

  1. Hoping for some kind forum users to jump in on the opinion of the sex of this plant. I've got a grow journal going on this too.

Short story, White Widow XTRM seeds from Amsterdam Seed Bank, non-feminized version. 45 days of veg under 18/6, and about 10 days of flower under 12/12 using a 400W HPS, in a DWC bubble system.

I sprouted 4 seeds, lost one early with rockwool drying out. Lost second one yesterday when stem could not hold weight and disconnected from root structure (damn!). Down to two left. The pics below are one of the two that is growing like a beast - hopefully a female beast.

Would love opinions on sex, everyone says it's easy but I'm struggling.

    Thanks in advance!

  2. Difficult to tell but I'm leaning towards female.

  3. Thanks, I hope you're right. Could still be a bit early. Any others out there??

  4. If you had asked before it was flipped for flower, it would've been easier. They will show sex in veg too at about 2 months of age...if you know what you're looking for. I'm thinking it's a female but just watch it over the next day or so and it will become clear. If it's only throwing out leaves in those areas between stalk and leaf, then it's female. If it puts on anything resembling a ball, it's a male as the "ball" looking things will be seed pods. But I think it's a female and what we're looking at are just new growth that's trying to put out. Hope it's a girl! TWW

  5. Thanks for the input, I thought white pistils would show 1-2 weeks into flower (they may still), but those white hairs wouldn't show until then?

My eyes are about to cross I've been looking at so many pics of male and female online! Hard to tell if what I'm seeing look more like "duck bills" for a female or "rugby balls" for a male. Hoping the white hairs show to confirm a girl.

I'll post additional pics in a few days but keep the input (and good karma) coming! Thanks

  6. Sorry to say but those look like pollen sacs

  7. My view on them is probably male :( Pics 2 and 3 seem to show clusters of small but bulbous glands. I haven't seen that many males first hand, but it doesn't look right. I would have expected to see the classic 2 pistils erupting out of one of these by now too.

    But I hope I'm wrong.

  8. Yikes, I'm hoping they're waiting to pop the pistils soon. I'm down to two plants (just showed pics of the huge one). The one pictured is taking over the small grow room and crowding out the smaller one. I think I can nurse the smaller one back to where it needs to be if I pull the larger - but man that larger one is a beast. If it is female it would be the perfect mother (I cloned it already). The second one is not showing sex yet and appears to be a good week behind the one pictured. I'm going to flush the DWC tonight and take off for a couple of days and we'll see what happens. If I get any better signs tonight I'll post more pics but most likely won't until Sunday/Monday.

Any danger of the dropping pollen in that time - or way to early?

Really appreciate all the input too, thanks!

  9. Looks male to me as well, the pods seem to be coming on strong.

females have tear drop shaped calyxes, as for these ones they look more round, im assuming these/this is a male

  11. I'm afraid it could be male too. It started slow but exploded in growth. It has grown dense however, not lanky or stretched like I've seen males often do. If the pic above is a pre flower, presumably in veg stage, I didn't have anything like that before 12/12. The plant is so big, and so many flower sites since I topped twice, I assume I'd see some pistils at 10 days into 12/12 somwhere.... but nothing. I've got to be away a couple days and will chill out about it. When I'm back I'll shoot some more pics and get your opinions again. If nothing else maybe the pics will help others.

Thanks again all. Love the community here.

  12. Took one last look before taking off. No hairs yet, and the nodules look like balls. In a few places there are more than one, and I think the duckbill type shapes only have one nodule for each side of the stem... The second plant in the room which is spindly and being crowded out by the one in the pics looks promising. It seems a good week behind but I may have seen a small hair (or my desire for a female plant was just too high!).

With any luck the second plant holds on until I can conclusively sex the one with photos above and pull it (or not). If I pull it the second one can get all the attention and light. I cloned that one too, but only important if I can get a female. Should've bought feminized seeds I guess but I'd heard bad things about that route too.

Thanks again everyone. I'll get pics up of the one above, and the second plant, probably Sunday night/Monday. Have a great weekend!

  13. Hey everyone. I think I can conclusively say the pics above were of a male. Here are some three days later... The number of balls increased, no white hairs, shame since the plant was so healthy and vibrant. Probably the most helpful though was the contract between this one and the second one I'm growing right next to it. That one thankfully appears to be female. I'll post her pics next.

I think I got some good closeups of sexing white widow. Hopefully these help others. Take a look and let me know what you think. Thanks again for all the great input. What a wonderful community!

  14. To follow up with some good news, the second plant that was getting crowded out by the one above is a female. Here are some shots of her to compare. As mentioned, these are both seed from AMS, White Widow XTRM. Nice contrasting pics of a male and female. I got a couple of clones off the female and I think I'll create a mother, in soil, to keep in veg and take more clones. I think these pics are conclusive, but as always any and all input is welcome.

  16. Thanks! Next time feminized seeds, but this girl should get me a mother from earlier clones. Can't wait to populate the earth with her.
