  1. So the title says it all. Was just wondering if any blades would be interested in a gormet mushroom growing thread.

  2. Hi Sade,

I'm interested. I've been thinking about getting plugs for shiitake and portobello mushrooms.

  4. Ah ok. Thought this thread was dead. Stay tuned I plan on ordering more spores in about two weeks. I am still very new but with some success. I will probably start a new thread when all is ready. Extremely cheap to do as well.

  8. I've grown mushrooms for almost 8 years now, it's difficult and more tedious than growing a plant. If anyone needs help, feel free to ask.

I just recently got into mycology and the cultivation of mushrooms. I haven't ventured into gourmet species yet, but I'd certainly be interested in it. I wouldn't mind growing some shiitakes myself. I have a patch with strawberries in the yard that might be a nice spot to start some morels too.

  10. Well I am thinking of starting an outdoor woodlovers patch. Going to have rye grain as spawn. Then transplant to a mix of cardboard, alder chips, sawdust, and Coco coir.

Sounds great to me! I inoculated some rye grain this morning. I've never used it before, but I'm also planning on spawning it to bulk so maybe I'll know more in a few weeks.

edit: I'm indoor currently, but I'm curious about growing outdoors.

  12. I've been thinking about that. Grow them easy. Sell them to the high priced "foodie" places downtown. Seems super easy. Just grew up hearing "don't eat that!!"lol

  14. I used to grow shitake and oyster mushrooms. Those fuckers are like the missing link connecting the plant and animal kingdoms. I knew a guy who was deep into mycology and he setup a agar maze like a rat would run. On one end he placed his tissue culture and on the opposite end he placed his food source. The mycelium fanned out in all directions for maybe a couple inches before 'catching the scent' of its food source and making a bee-line down the fastest path trying to reach it. I didn't talk to him much and never heard if it actually reached and colonized the food source, but judging by how nice the mycelium was I bet it at least touched it. Wish I wasn't as busy with bud so I could get back into it, mushrooms are cool.

  15. I'm still on pf tek so I have alotto learn lol. I keep trying but our trailer is full of mold. So I will have to use a SAB (still air box) in order to prevent mold. Then I will stick the jars in SFC (shotgun fruiting chamber) with polyfill coverd holes for FAR (fresh air exchange)

  16. Shotgun chamber is the way to go. Easy passive system than works. Have grown lots of mushies that way.. Gourmet and otherwise

I'd be very interested to see others success.

  17. I like to string a bunch of poor man's pods together into a system. Multiple strains of the same thing can be grown in the different tubs. My dead last grow was probably 5 years ago and consisted of chocolate, pink, and blue oysters with a single tub of Maitake. Which didn't do well at all.

  18. I'm excited I have a friend on another forum that is sending me SHIP lids (sealed hole inoculation port) this way no contaminates get in and you don't need a SAB.

  19. Ohh I would TOTALLY grow me some mushrooms, I LOVE mushrooms! If I wasn't in the AWESOME process of teaching myself/learning to grow cannabis then I might be learning mushrooms! Could I grow the mushrooms with my weed, under the same light.......oh shite....do mushrooms even NEED light?!?! LOL

But FOR REAL....I would LOVE to eventually learn to do this as I can eat the HELL outta some "shrooms"'
