Looking for New Rims, Help

Discussion in 'Planes, Trains & Automobiles' started by NorseMythology, Feb 8, 2016.

  1. I am pretty ignorant when it comes to cars, but I want a new set of rims for summer tires and I'll use my current rims for winter tires.

I have a 1999 Acura cl, rim specs are

    6x16
    4bolt
    50mm offset or something

Would I need the same size or could I go bigger without altering my car? My rims just look too small.

Any site I went to wouldn't let me specify 4bolt pattern or would show me 5bolt patterns even though I entered year make and model. Ugh.

Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

  2. If you want a different rim size but don't want it to have any difference on your car (other than maybe ride comfort if you go unnecessarily large rim), you can get bigger rims but thinner sidewalls, "low profile tires" basically. The aspect ratio is what you'd be looking at

  3. Cool! Maybe 17 or 18" I am not looking to be flashy just think the gap in wheelwell is too big, looks dumb.

  4. This is not my car but looks exactly the same. See the big gap

  5. Lowering springs will fix wheel gap.
Big rims will make you look donk.
Make sure you get a lower offset so they don't sink into your fenders.

  6. Look also at the added weight from bigger rims (and the more expensive tires). Unsprung weight can make substantial changes in handling characteristics.

Yes, I remember those discussions from my early days on the Miata forums...and is also one of the reasons I hate the new ones. Bloat plus extra weight on the corners was not a good thing...so I continue to thrash my NA around (although I did put the BBS from a '92 Black and Tan on and actually shaved a few pounds at each corner).

  7. Lol if you put rims on a 99 Acura you've turned it into a ricer

  8. Not really unless he puts some cheap ass generic konigs.
A set of proper sized wheels that atleast go with Japanese tuning trends won't look bad or riced out as long as it's lowered too tho.

But I get your point save the mods for project cars. Doing stuff to your daily usually does end in rice.

  9. I definitely don't want it to look like a ricer, just want the wheels to look proportional lol. The stock rims are quite pitted and it bothers me. I want it to be rewarding when I spend the time to wash it, but the rims ruin it.

  10. Maybe look into a newer model Acura rims. Should be cheaper for them and new tires too.
Can probably find them at junk yards or craigslist.

  11. Not a bad idea there!

  12. Something along these lines, simple. I don't want them to be a pain in the ass to clean

  14. The drop does help but those rims look like 1992 Buick park avenue rims
