Second Run at Organics. Bigger Set-Up.

  1. Hey GC!
I have been out of growing for the past couple of years. I am back and ready to improve upon what was my first organic grow a couple years back. I will be running a 1000w grow in a 4x4x6.5' tent. There are 6 plants in veg right now that I am waiting to transplant into 4 Gallon containers. I am waiting on a soil I mixed 3 weeks ago. My plans are to be amendment free through forms of various compost.
My current soil mix consisted of:
    1 Part Roots Organic
1 Part Quality Compost (EWC/Bokashi/Manure/Outdoor Compost)
1 Part aeration (Perlite + Pummice)
Amended w/ Alfalfa meal, High N Guano, High P Guano, Neem seed meal, Oyster Shells (Crushed & Flour), Rock Dust, fish bone meal.

I already started 2 Bokashi buckets, have my worm bin back in action & plan to get my hands on an outdoor tumbler. Its tough here in New England with outdoor compost in the winter months. Hopefully we can be amendment free really soon.

Any other suggestions on what to add as a viable source of humus?

I will post some pictures shortly. The plants are about 5 weeks into veg.

    Thanks all!

  2. We have as follows: Cheese (1) Kaya 47 (1) Y Griega (3)

The Cheese plant had some discoloring of leaves. Temps dipped a little low. I just hit it with a alfalfa tea and have recently brought in a space heater.

The other picture is of my previously mixed soil. I am confident the plants will turn around after the watering!

  3. I'm not sure what you mean by "amendment free" and yet you listed a mess of amendments?

I've never used a tent before. Do you have a good solid exhaust for the Big Light?

  4. I meant amendment free after this run. So for everything moving forward! Sorry for my vagueness. Yes, I have the light air cooled to an outside exhaust. I currently have multiple forms of compost running. My GF's father is also a lawn care guy and has multiple piles of dumped leaf/grass all over the back yard on the edge of the woods. Should I ass these to worm bin or a tumbler? Should I just mix them in with a soil base. Some of them have been there for years!

  5. I'd go for the very old leaf heaps of at all possible. The grassy material would do well added to a compost heap which you can then continuously mulch into your worm bins.

Leaf mold has completely changed my garden. I no longer buy/use sphagnum peat but instead use large amounts of (very well broken down) leaves as my soil.

  15. I have a leaf compost question? There is a big space of Oak trees right near me that leaves have been dropping for years. If I rake away a top layer and dig down about a foot.....In theory that should be great composted leaf matter right?

  19. I had some tough luck last week. My light had trouble firing up during lights on. By process of elimination I decided to replace the mogul socket! Lights have worked fine 3 days in a row now! Pretty excited to get this grow done with for a taste test. Some minor hiccups along the way but in the end they've turned out nicely. These are two pics from today and it is Day 24 of Flower. Ladies loving life.
