Mountain driving... at night Best experience Ive had

  1. So last week I went to Atlanta for work for a week. I decided, once I got through the first two hours of that eight and a half hour drive that is riddled with highway patrol, to spend the rest of it high. I had my bowl and grinder that I had prepped prior to the drive, ready to roll. Before anyone panics, while the sun was still up, I packed the bowl in the car, but when I needed light for future bowls, I always pulled over.

Anyway, my first bowl I smoked about two hours before dark, so I got to enjoy the sunset through some of Kentucky and Tennessee, which was lovely. By the time I stopped to repack my bowl, I didn't realize that I was about to go through an hour and a half stretch of pure mountain driving. I travel all the time, even south, but it had been quite some time since I was this far in TN. Not realizing that, I packed my bowl and it was a great bowl. Even threw a little kief in there since it was my home stretch to my hotel room. Three and a half hours left. So I packed the bowl, got in the car and drove. Few minutes in I was smoking that bowl and enjoying it, mind you it was now dark. The sun had finished going down as I finished preparing this wonderful bowl. It was some amazing AK so it hits hard, fast and it lasts. When I was down to only two hits left in the bowl, I realized that I had just entered pure mountain ranges for the next 100 miles. Anyone from TN or that area will know how difficult they can be at night, especially driving with the constant curbs at 65 or 70. Realized I had basically finished the bowl and there was no reason to leave that little bit so I said fuck it and smoked it.

I put my Spotify on a playlist called "Acoustic Covers", actually thrown together by Spotify itself. I knew virtually every song on there and they sounded amazing and relaxing thanks to the acoustic aspect. One habit I have when I drive in mountains, which is rare but mind you I travel, is at night to turn all my interior lights down to their minimum setting and the big ass blue screen for my radio off (fortunately you can JUST turn off the screen and not have to turn off the whole radio :D ) so I can focus on what the headlights are picking up as far as changes in the road, inclines and declines, turns, how sharp, constantly because hey - I'm going through mountains. Occasionally looking over to see that we're on top of one and you can see a tiny town that has been nestled in to the valley of several neighboring mountains. You can see the lights from the towns but only from up high. Those were some of the most amazing moments were reaching those peaks and looking over.

At first I was nervous. Combination of the weed and the fact that I'd never driven mountains like this high. But I quickly got over it. The music softly playing, lights dimmed and just watching myself drive and focusing on the road and the surroundings because it's a must when you drive on such a road, seeing those towns from mountain peaks, or even just empty valleys below. The moon, fortunately was full and HUGE. It was like someone turned a nightlight on because you could still see mountains in the far distant in quite some detail.

About an hour later, I slowly began to come down from what I assume was a lengthy high due to the strain, circumstances and time, and where I was no longer so engulfed in the scenery where I was literally saying "Wow" out loud to myself, or commenting on the scenic masterpieces. But I was relaxed. I had, for the most part, had my car on cruise the entire time so I could just enjoy and only focus on navigating the mountainside. Which, though not as engaging, was still beautiful. The full moon blanketing everything in a dim but somehow still bright light was just the cherry on top. The traffic was surprisingly light, meaning I rarely had to change lanes at all. Nor did anyone seem to be in a rush. I set my car just a smidge over the speed limit on cruise and no one, out of the handful of cars there were, seemed to rush up on me. I wondered if they were enjoying the scenery too. So whenever I could see, I'd always look at the license plate to see where they were from. I easily saw plates from thirteen states and I spent an unknown amount of time pondering where these people were going and why. So far away from home. I put my head back and just focused on the road at this point, smiling lightly for no reason singing to the music from that acoustic playlist that had been going the entire time. Occasionally lighting up a cigarette, feeling the fresh air - it smelled different that Ohio air.. Kentucky air.. every state I had been through so far. Senses heightened. It was so fresh. I actually just turned my heater up and left my window partially down for the remainder of the drive. It seemed to take forever but no time at all. I was enjoying every second of the drive, next thing I knew, my GPS was yelling for me to exit on the next ramp and I was there. Three hours had shot by and my high tapered off over the next twenty minutes as I pulled in to the hotel.

    Best. Experience. Ever.

  2. That was a great read OP 🏻🏻 Thank you for taking me there!
I've only driven through the mountains once (Rockies on I80) on an overnight drive, it was cool, but nothing like you experienced. Didn't blaze because it was super foggy. That sounds like you had a great time.

  4. reminded me of my drive from tx to ct. It was a 32 hour ride including eating stops and I usuley stop in tn to sleep.
The great smokies mountains were one of my faveite stretches. I loved rolling my windows down and smelling nature.
I love long road trips, getting really high and then realizing three hours later that three hours had passed lol

  5. Commenting because I'll be back to read

  6. You're welcome! I hoped everyone or most everyone read it after enjoying their favorite strain so they could get as close as possible to the experience. I wanted to share. 😁

It was an amazing drive. Normally, I'm neutral with driving. It doesn't thrill me but it doesn't kill me. But this time, I didn't want it to end. I was so fortunate the high ended when it did. I don't think I could get that lucky again.

  7. Right?! Don't get me wrong, I've had unpleasant experiences driving after smoking. Running in to an area that just makes you feel uneasy before you factor in the paranoia from weed. But this was the first time I tried this out (usually don't travel that direction) and it's something I'd love to do again. Thinking of looking for areas like that around my state I can drive through.

  10. Well I did enjoy being in Panama City on the beach after enjoying a fatty. The water was amazing, but my paranoia about shark attacks increased haha.

I've actually driven those roads you speak of in Alabama going to Panama. At night. Almost hit a tree that was just laying in the road after what seemed like a mild storm. Horrible experience and I was sober. Would never want to try it high.

  11. man i feel you about those back roads. I get paranoid driving also
there was a time I was going to Columbus ga....I was driving all day it was the middle of the night all was fine. I just smoked a little bit, had a real good buzz going and all of sudden the divided two lane highway turned into a narrow two lane road surrounded by low hanging trees in both sidrs which was fine except whenever I would pass by an 18 wheeler. (Them hos being driving fast) The road was so close I swore I was going to hit everyone . I gripped the stairing well so tight my knucles hurt the next day lol.
