Is the smoke frome a vaporizer cooler than smoke from a bong or pipe?

Discussion in 'Vaporizers' started by Beefborn, Feb 4, 2016.

  1. Hello! I am somewhat new to smoking but I decided to replace marijuana with drinking because I hate feeling like poo the next day. My problem is that I've never smoked anything and the smoke is almost too harsh for my lungs, I'll end up coughing for 2 days after a session :(
My question is, is the smoke that a vaporizer produces any cooler in temperature than the smoke coming out of my pipe? I'm thinking cooler smoke might fix the coughing but I don't really want to sink money into a vape if there's no difference. Should I try a cheap pen (I read that there's disposable ones), should I stick it out and keep my sessions a couple weeks apart until I get used to the smoke?? I had a dry pipe and a bubbler but they both make me cough and I've had edibles but they take up to 3 hours to kick in and they don't do shit for me idk why. Thanks for the help!

There are a few things you need to consider, but first ask yourself - if you're replacing drinking with toking, how much do you plan to? Once a day? Few times a week? Every weekend only? Because how often is going to partially determine the coughing and the burning.

You're going to cough and the first few hits of anything good will probably burn a little bit every time (not everyone is the same, plus there are so many tools) but as a general rule of thumb, expect it. I toke a couple times a day, first few are rougher than the rest, then sometimes I'll just get a good hit and go in to a fit. It just happens.

On to your question, it really depends on how often you plan to toke. If it's not rather often, I wouldn't invest in a pen. They are wonderful tools because they conserve weed and are different all around, not to mention discreet, but you give a little in type of high, the price and often, I've used nice ones and some still ruin the taste of certain strains, which is awful. Pens aren't for everyone and there are so many ways to use a pen wrong, if the weed isn't cured properly you're in for a horrible tasting session, or if you overheat it, etc. My point is, they are good tools and they don't get too hot, but unless you fork out good money you have to be careful or you'll just combust anyway which is the opposite of vaping.

If you plan to make it a daily routine, get a small pipe and take easy hits, not much larger than a cigarette (ask someone who smokes to show you about how big of a hit they take), and drink something after every few hits or when you feel a coughing fit coming on and over time it will get easier. Just like with cigs, it takes time for you to get used to taking in the smoke so no matter the method you'll cough and it will burn but it will get better. But before investing in anything else, figure out how often you want to smoke (keeping in mind the cost as well to keep going) because too many people waste money on multiple cheap tools than buying one great one because they got bad or no information.

EDIT: Once you get started and get comfortable, you can use virtually any tool with ease and feel more comfortable using them properly (lot of people get nervous early on and don't take proper hits on bongs, etc).

  3. My knowledge of vaporizers is very limited so take this with a grain of salt.

I don't know if the smoke is necessarily cooler from a vape, but for me, it's far less harsh. And I use a cheap Hebe Titan 2 that supposedly produces very hot vapor.

It makes sense that something being vaporized vs lighting something on fire would produce far less irritants.

I have a hard time smoking anything that doesn't go through something to cool the smoke. I can hit a bong a few times of loaded with ice without it kicking the crap out of my lungs, but if I hit my little spoon piece, just a few hits shreds my throat and lungs.

  4. That's odd that you have so much issue with even a small piece. Do you grow your own or at least have a consistent supplier?

  5. I'm not sure if you were asking me but I'll answer anyhow.

    No and no.

But I've been like that since I stopped smoking cigarettes a few years ago. I didn't have one for well over a year. then I slipped up and bummed one off someone. I paid for it the next day.

I've always had sinus and respiratory issues though.

  6. I was, for some reason it didn't quote you. Anyway! That's brutal because there isn't a lot you can do about it. Have you yourself tried a vaporizer or dab?

    Actually yes.

I'll pass on the dabs for now. Just too intense for me. My friends let me hit his and I just didn't like it at all. I have the tolerance of an 8 year old. Plus getting wax or what ever isn't easy for me. Flowers I can almost find by accident. LOL

I love my vaporizer though. It's a cheap Hebe Titan 2 but it gets the job done. I'll likely invest in something better at some point.

  8. I like dabs in moderation but like you said, it's hard to find unless you're in certain states. I struggle with mine. I've had a few but none of them the nicer models yet. Just decent - well reviewed models that were under $150. Always seem to smoke popcorn

  9. Unless you get the temperature too hot, there is no smoke in a vaporizer. That's the whole idea. I've smoked herb since I was sixteen, (71 now). I started vaping about twelve years ago. Best thing I ever did for my body. I know you are not listening but the best advice I could give anyone: Quit Smoking Now. Get a vape save your lungs. But then you know all about that don't you? Good luck with that little green tank, or concentrator you pack around with you when you go out. That won't be much trouble, will it? Sorry to be so "blunt", but your "blunt" will kill you a little at a time.

  10. Many cheap vapes combust the material. With a high end vape u can regulate the temps. So vaping can be changed to release more terrapine, there is a chart on this site somewhere of the boiling point each chemical chain in cannabis. U r coughing as a reaction or defense mechanism in ur body to protect it against suffocating as well as keeping poisons out of ur lungs. The body is amazing since it knows what can kill u faster, she u get too much alcohol u vomit but have many more ways of protection with the liver as a filter.
I make my own e-juice with Holy Terp's Philosopher and run about 15watts on a .5 ohm coil. It has a decent pine taste and smell that u can use in public.

  11. My Wife is a lifetime non-smoker and loves the Arizer Air. Rarely coughs, easy on her throat, drinks a bit of water while vaping.

Vaping is better than smoking on several fronts. Just different highs I find each way of consuming give different highs.

  12. Depends on what vape. There are several vapes that don't cool as good but some that deliver some cool vapor. Anything storz & bickel delivers great vapor.

  14. It varies widely across vapes. The Pax is easy on the lungs but somewhat hot on the throat. The Crafty and Mighty, by contrast, produce very smooth, cool vapor that you can barely feel on your throat, but they tend to give me an "itchy" sensation in my lungs, which makes me cough a lot sometimes.

In general, vapor is way better than smoke. Fuck combustion (insert copyright logo here).

  15. I'm actually selling a Crafty by Storz and Bickel if anyone is interested. I bought it at full retail, it has very low hourly usage logged, and is in absolutely perfect condition. Message me if you're interested. Thanks guys!

  16. .

If your replacing drinks for tokes you need to slowly work yourself up to a comfortable tolerance. Otherwise you will be totally mind blown all the time from a good vape. I do not recommend a cheap pen unless its for dabbing. The flower pens like an atmos raw do not truly vape the product, they still burn it. If your flower comes out black or ashy it is being combusted amd you are not getting the vape benefits. In reguard to your title question, yes vapor is far cooler than smoke especially when the vape is utilized properly.

In my experience and good well grown and cured bud will make you cough no matter how cool the vapour. It's the cannabinoids, terpenes and flavinoids themselves that cause the irritation of your throat. Lower temperatures offer softer vapour and a more buzzy high. Higher temps (+390*F) are much harsher and offer the sedative effects of the weed. Sometimes you just have to tough it out and realize you're going to cough a little when inhaling particles into your lungs.

    With all that being said...
Vapour is softer than smoke by a large margin and it doesn't take the body as long to recover from a night of heavy use. Your throat will be back to normal pretty much the next day, maybe a slight cough of clear phlegm in the morning upon waking up. My throat irritation and breathing have greatly improved since getting my Herbalizer and more recently my Mighty.

I suggest anyone looking for a vapourizer go to FuckCombustion forums and sign up. There's a gold mine of information on vapourizing and some of the most knowledgeable people on the subject are on the board. There's subforums for desk top and portable vapourizers, which contain HUGE threads on almost every vape on the market.

  18. This is right on. After you get a little vape knowledge, take a look at the Haze Dual.
