so I made it ! It's not super dank but it does get me really high.and im quite proud of it for my first try. Im confident with refining technique i can supply myself . I did a couple things wrong I'm gonna change tomarow when I run 1oz + 7g kief.I have a half inch wide about 15' long pvc pipe, I know I know but I wanted to see if I could even do it before invested alot of $. Anyway it had 6 holes in the bottom one on the opposite end. I sprayed 11 oz butane through it. I forgot to heat up water for the double boiler and by the time I did it was all evaporated mostly. So I add 145 degree water to the double boiler. It was golden honey and popping big bubbles like on you tube vids. After I sprayed it up it was just like peanut butter then I put on wax paper on My hot plate 140 for 5 min and it dried into green instead of the gold peanut butter and it's like light greenish cloudy taffy I got 2.5g back from 25g mids 1g kief. I felt like the hot plate was too hot and maybe burnt some of let out terps and that's why it's cloudy green. 'So I'm thinking it not purged enough . It it taffy like with a million holes popped in it. Like this honeycomb crackle I had once.I have pics any advice or tips to make it the best it can be ?Next time should I put a coffe filter on the bottom of bho pipe and rubber band or duct tape it. so shake and other plant matter don't get into my Pyrex pot ?
I'm in the process of learning myself and im curious why you went metal over glass as far as your tube goes ? And if you have the coin available to set yourself up nicely , have you thought about getting a vacum chamber and pump setup happening ?
hey thanks for the reply. Well I actually had to use pvc unfortunately. I left the metal tube across town. Well now that only smoking dabs and successfully made bho I'm open to a vaccume purge. I read online some guy bought on for 100$ that suited his needs. I don't need anything too fancy to start. I just iso washed my rigs here's a pic.
PVC might get stripped down by the butane BTW, but if we look past that it seems like you aren't chilling your butane and freezing the material before blasting that's why your getting that nasty brownish green colour and it should not be cloudy and waxy like that you need to purge longer, and if you don't have a vacuum pump much hotter, to get the rest of the butane out.
thanks chemist. that step i deff skimped on, it was cold but by the time i used it had warmed back up to basically normal. so ill def try that next time. ok so i have a few q's. after i spray the butane. do i just do a hot water bath AND use a hotplate or just one, if so specifically give or take a few mins , how long and how hot. this threw me off. bc my bho was goldish after the double heat bath @ 140 degrees, then i put on hot plate on lowest setting and it started to have blackish/green streaks streaks, so i started whipping and it turned green. so i took it off the hot plate bc i thought i was burning it. its possible to clean this up ? its possible to make real deal dabs with my setup ? i have a pic of everything up above. i saw a post where a guy got his vaccume chamber for $100 is this possible ? , i know they are lots of $ is why i ask, i know nothing about them bc i havent considered dropping $ for one since i do small runs with mids not dank. i have some pics of the other half of the bho run, we did another 21g +1g kief. i have only double boiled it , no purge yet fyi
It was probably the suspended butane making it look light than it was, but the direct heat might have burnt it too. I purge in water bath( previously heated no direct heat yet) then once all activity has stopped it gets moved to a second water bath on a hotplate on low, after a few hours of that I use a convection heat gun to do my final purge and purge until its clear gold/amber with no clouding or bubbles Here's a shot of "semi" purged oil, after the 2 water bath process During final purge, look at all that butane End product
heres some bho thats only been water purged, no hot plate or griddle yet. my oven goes to 170 the lowest my hot plate is 140-160 the lowest. i wana put it back in my pyrex and let it warm up to spread out thin and purge @ 100-110 or so for hours , my space heater register goes from 50-120 degrees , i was thinking setting on top of that @ 100 for hours. when i purged my other bho i think i burnt it and let some terps out bc it went from this color below to straight up green purging at 140 on pyrex on my griddle but now after a day its back to brown ish in stead of mostly green., wierd....

so the only reliable 110-135 degree surface was a heating pad and a heat lamp. After it got warm i spread it out and purged for 6-8 hrs.it was like sticky and puffy all moisture is visably gone and a diff consitency now And the bho dried to the pyrex. Any opinions ? Remember this is my first time lol. Next time I'll freeze herb and butane and I found a vaccume chamber for $150 online I might get that.
Still wet, you either need a vacuum chamber or a heat gun to purge properly from this point. Try putting it directly in the oven at 170-200 for 30 minutes, you may loose some potency but you have to get it hotter and more viscous to release the butane without a vacuum.
fucking predictive text lol ok wel since im obviously wasting product. ill stick to iso . i smoked both. the greenish gets me ripped, gold is mediocore, both taste like canna budder. the green is more shatter like, gold is like super dry budder. unsattisfied with both just bc taste. both dont crackle anymore afetr re purging and no residue on nail... im just gonna drop $150 on the vac chamber off ebay, def worth it. until then. so i have 1.5 oz washed once with bho + 7g kief ( kief hasnt been run). is the 1st ran bho'd weed worth a 2nd wash, i wAS TOLD IF it would be worth bieng BHOD, id get a lol something but since i dont have that down right i just want to run a qwiso on the 1.5 oz bho'd bud. btw it actually smells dank and looks smokable just like it went in , i wont smoke it lol just saying after grinding i think i can get something useful out of it. ? i left them to mostly small nugs and now i grinded it all up. also ive had this kief for months i just dont run out to smoke it. can i qwiso it and make dabbable .its mids nothing high qualiyty product ? i have a kief press and have pressed mass blocks. ive decided i like it more in powder but i dont smoke it anyway.
You can build a vacuum chamber for relatively cheap. Go search building a vacuum chamber on instructables dot to the com. It isn't hard at all. A pump begins to draw more then the chamber allows in. This creates vacuum. A spigot valve on the oposite end of the chamber from where the pump is attached will do it. Getting a vacuum gauge is a must as is an electric hot plate with variable temp control. Vacuum allows you to boil water at a lower temp then normal. That allows you to purge completely at lower temps. THAT allows you to make epic concentrates that won't fucking kill you or poison your brain to that of a village idiot.
