Trimming off bottom branches aka lollipoping

  1. Has anybody had experience with cutting off the bottom branches to open up the plants to air and light? I see pictures all the time of plants that are trimmed up bare for the first 12 to 18 inches of stem I've seen people trim their plants into only 4 main branches but that's scary to do to your plants I worry about losing yield..Has anybody had success with trimming off the bottom branches only leaving branches that receive light? I've read many times that it increases yield but I tried it and my yield was the same Has anyone experienced much higher yields from trimming bottom branches aka lollipoping?

  2. You can pretty much do whatever you want to with them while they're in veg. People trim up the bottom 1/3 to 1/2 of their plants before they go into flower because the light can only realistically penetrate about 8-10 inches below the canopy. So anything down below where the light penetrates is not going to develop like it would if it had proper light and will only suck energy, nutrients, water, etc., from the tops above that are going to develop given the proper conditions. These plants are weeds and are much hardier than most give them credit for. They'll try to grow under the most awful conditions. If you want to trim up your plant or cut off some branches so light can penetrate, go ahead....if your plant is healthy. Most top their plants several times as they come up in size through veg. This gives you more tops when you go into flower and will increase your yield. But don't be afraid of it. Do whatever trimming or shaping you're going to do while it's in veg though. I don't recommend doing a lot of defoliating once you put them into flower. TWW
