This grow could be considered a sequel to the Story of a Fighter. The sole focus is going to be to grow as much dope as possible. It's my 3rd grow ever.

I've made some improvements to the cupboard. Drilled some air vents on the floor, as well as by the outtake fan on the ceiling. The carbon filter is no longer pushing air through a layer of carbon, but rather, the air is going to flow alongside it. This will allow hot air to be sucked out of the cupboard more easily, while at the same time allowing for moderate odour control.

The temperatures inside the grow room is now peaking at 30C. It used to be 36C.. so I suppose we can expect slightly nicer buds this time.

The soil I'm using is Dalton's Premium Potting mix, which includes slow-release fertilizer. I'm thus not going to be using any additional fertilizers, except for maybe a sprinkle of extra Phosphorus and Potassium during flower, no nitrogen. I'll have a look see what I can buy.

My only worry right now is whether the seeds are actually female.. though my friend told me that he got them from a guy who orders seeds from the internet. These could potentially be freebies that he stashed away.

You can tell that there's two separate strains here - two seedlings are displaying broad leaflets, and the other two are skinny.. almost like a needle. Seems like the guy gave me an even selection of strains, which tells me that they were probably ordered from the internet.. and thus, feminized.

Getting seeds across the border doesn't sound that hard as I originally thought it could be, after all. We New Zealanders really do have a tight-lipped underground community. I thought I was the only one in the country who knew about online seed banks.

  3. Give them a couple of months growing time and they'll show whether they're male or female. You need at least that much time to get them up to a good size for flower anyway so your yield will be decent. They'll show themselves without forcing it through flower at about 8 weeks. TWW

    UPDATE - Week 2

Plants are now displaying multiple-fingered serrated leaves. They seem to be loving their environment, at 30C and 50% humidity. There's no sign of stretching, wilting, yellowing, etc. They look like little birds.

I'll be flowering them in exactly 4 weeks time, due to the space limitations inside the cupboard. That would make it about 6 weeks of total vegging time from seed.. which is the same amount of time I vegged my very first grow from seed (and it still hit the ceiling as early as 3 weeks!)

Although, because I'm growing multiple plants in smaller pots, with twice as much light as my previous grows.. and lower temperatures.. I could expect minimum stretching.

Flowering time will be exactly 8 weeks, no more, no less. That's about the time a lot of indoor growers harvest. I've pretty much already conquered my growing paranoia at this point. We're slowly reaching a boiling point in cannabis history.. I think, the longer we choose to stay in the closet, the more we will delay legalization. If we could legalize and tax cannabis.. we could probably even afford Universal Basic Income. George Washington was onto something when he fought the Whiskey Rebellion. People are willing to pay a lot of money for weed.. it's worth more than gold per gram.

Drying an curing I will give it 2 weeks time in total. That should make it a 4-month-long grow.. about 1/3 of a year. I think to me, that's more than enough for some decent smokes.

    UPDATE - Week 3

We're onto the third week now. There's 13 weeks left to harvest. Time's actually been flying, to my surprise.. I don't actually feel the need to constantly look at my plants the way I did with my first few grows.

I love how they're all looking symmetrical and in uniform. I'm kinda obsessive about that. Maybe I should rotate the one on the top-right corner counter-clockwise by 45 degrees?

There's no way I'm going to halt this operation. Even if I got kicked out of my room, I do know someone who is willing to look after my plants for me.. since my parent's probably wouldn't want me to grow weed in their house. lol

I love my crazy little life. I don't wanna be a menace to society, by no means.. ... I wanna help other people, do good things in the community, donate to charity... once I get myself financially stable, of course. I don't steal, I'm not a pedophile .. ... but yeah, I love growing dope, and I'm not ashamed of it. I'm glad to be part of a revolutionary movement. After all.. us young people are going to be the old people of tomorrow. We will be in charge of society. God knows what the next generation will think of us?

fuck, I'm so drunk right now. Finally got some cash to buy myself some India Pale Ales.

  7. 8 weeks is a good average number for flowering but what you should do since you you dont know what strain they are... you should look at trichome ripeness because your 2 stains wont be ready at same time looking at trichome getting from clear to cloudy to amber is the only sure way to know when it optimally ready

    UPDATE - Week 4

Yo, this is the fourth week. A month has gone past since I first popped the seeds into their trays. 2 weeks left till flowering. There's exactly 3 months left till harvest day at this point. I'm pretty confident these are going to turn out female. They're all looking pretty uniform to me.

Except, there's two different breeds here. The top left pot and bottom right pot are clearly something else. Their leaves are slightly more wrinkled, with sharper edges. They nodes are shaped like a spider.. with leaves shooting in all directions. They're also slightly taller than the other two pots.

Thank god I'm not smoking any weed right now. With these monsters hiding in my closet, it would be pretty hard to sleep at night.. without a beer or two.

  9. UPDATE - Week 5

It's week 5 now, 2 days left till week 6. I've initiated flowering mode about 6-7 days ago, and am already seeing lots of pistils on two plants.

It's becoming clearer than ever that I've been given two separate strains. I've put the taller ones at the back, and the shorter ones at the front.. to prevent the light from blocking them, due to the angle at which it is positioned. The tall ones are obviously sativa dominant, as they're also showing pistills earlier.. while the ones at the front are india dominant.

I've also done some constructive defoliation at the bottom. The purpose of this is to increase air flow, as well as light penetration for the bottom branches that have recently started shooting outward, which will be providing me with buds. Think of each one of those tiny branches as individual plants, and you'll see what I mean.

There's one particular plant that doesn't seem to be producing off shoots.. just wants to grow into a skinny, tall stick with a single cola in the middle.

  10. UPDATE - Week 6

Yep, it's week 6 already. lol

Just a few pictures of the flowers, as well as the coffee-grind filter. As you can see, the fan is sucking air from the grow room and blowing air through a thin layer of granulated instant coffee grinds. I also scattered coffee grinds all around the exhaust, just to make sure that no smell can leak anywhere else.

As I've previously stated in my other thread, coffee grinds have been used in one particular study as an environmentally friendly and economic stench-absorbent for sewage treatment facilities. It is still experimental, and probably not to be relied upon for large-scale grow operations.. but it should be perfect for microgrows. Not only does it absorb the smell - it also masks it. For humans, that is.

I added a sprinkle of potassium-dominant fertilizer, so that should add fuel to the fire.

Let's watch those buds grow with a vengeance. 2 months to go. (and 20 seeds left.. muhahaha!)

  11. You could put aquarium activated carbon pellets in place of your instant coffee... i made myself a little diy filter and works very good...

  12. I was thinking of that earlier on, although I'm overall pretty pleased and surprised by the results I've been getting with coffee. All I smell is coffee every time I come into my room, and every time I wake up .. lol

I'll definitely be trying out aquarium pellets for my next grow. I guess you could say that part of the reason I've chosen coffee is because I've accidentally over-spent my money on building up my grow room, particularly when it comes to paint. Then again, the paint has benefited the plants tremendously.. allowing them to make use of what little light the CFLs have to offer.

Nobody who has ever walked into my room has ever complained about a weed smell. Then again, the entire house already stinks of weed, thanks to my roommates.. so they'd have to arrest the whole house.

  13. UPDATE - Week 7 (Week 3 of flower)

So we've got 2x seemingly Sativa dominant plants that are towering just below the lights at the moment, as well as 2x seemingly Indica dominant ones that haven't even flowered yet.

Defoliation has benefited the plants tremendously. The 'popcorn buds' at the bottom of the plant are filling up at about the same rate as the top cola. The humidity has dropped from 60% to 40%, along with a slight drop in temperature as well. (Currently peaking 28C).

What I'll probably do is harvest the two sativas after 8 weeks of flower, then let the other two plants finish at their own pace.

  14. UPDATE - Week 8 (Week 4 of flower)

Right, we're onto week 4 of flowering now. The two sativas have stopped stretching, and are more or less half-way through to harvest. They're sitting just below the lights, one of them is sitting right next to it, but not close enough to actually touch the bulb, which is great. I don't want to bend them or cause any stress to them.

The other two indicas have just started giving off pistills, so we could be expecting around 20-25 grams out of each plant. 4 ounces almost, I'd say.. which I'd be more than happy with.

Defoliation has definitely been a success. One of the lightbulbs is shining at the plant sideways, as you can see in Page 1.. so that should be enough to more or less supplement light to the buds at the bottom.

  15. I force the hot air out of the grow room using a PC fan, and then force that same air to flow through a very thin opening, less than 1mm. Underneath this opening is basically a layer of coffee. The coffee successfully absorbs the smell, and as a result.. all you can smell when you come into my room is coffee.

Regarding nutes, I just let the slow-release fertilizer in the soil feed the plant. I only added a single soaking of Flower and Fruit fertilizer during the first week of flower.. 6% nitrogen, 3% phosphorus, 10% potassium. I won't be using any more nutes until the end of harvest.
