To red worm or not to red worm?

Discussion in 'Growing Organic Marijuana' started by Rst2016, Jan 24, 2016.

  1. Hi everyone!

I got a wild hair after reading some interesting and seemingly beneficial info on adding worms to your medical, organic cannabis plant soil.

I got on Amazon and bought some.

What do you prod think? They won't hurt my roots right? I'm under the impression they only eat dead plant material, the castings are amazing for it and the aeration is second to none?

    Thanks!!!! [IMG][IMG]

no they wont hurt your roots at all they just want the dead unused stuff and help your soil be healthy. As well as your plants.

  3. what size are your pots? Worms repopulate according to their space environment.

Don't know how it would be in small pots. My guess maybe 10 gal pot will be minimal. Hopefully someone whose done trial and error or knows chimes in.

  4. nice plants by the way

  5. My pots are 5 gallons so hopefully it's still helpful :) thanks! It's my first grow so I'm still loving feedback!

  6. yeah idk for five gals.

Note this is just a hypothesis since i aint to genius. The worms might leave the soil pots becaue the temp will fluctuate according to the rooms environment where as a bigger pot will hold its temperature better in the core of your soil. This is just my own thought i have no proof.

You can start a vermicompost bin with thosr worms or just do trial and error. Sorry. Best advice i can give.

  7. put em in, worst case the leave the pots, but i think some will stay.

i would put them in at lights on since they dont like light and this will most likely encourage them to go right into the soil.

  8. I ordered 250 so I'll use a few in each and sage the rest for the upcoming 20 gallon outdoor project ;)

  9. This would be a great time for you to start a worm bin ^.^

  10. Oh i should but Jesus I'm so spoiled with my larvae bin that's so easy to maintain. I should do a worm bin though your right! It's just more work with worms being more sensation to heat. Being almost vegetarian I have plenty of things for them to eat away from the larvae shares.

  11. I have 3-4 bins going all the time. Collectively, they take about 5 minutes of maintenance a week, and this is just me adding food scraps and carbon. Probably the easiest most beneficial part of my grow.
