Medicinal Cannabis: In Vitro Validation of Vaporizers for the Smoke-Free Inhalation of Cannabis. (abst – 2016) http://www.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/pubmed/2678444

Inhalation by vaporization is a promising application mode for cannabis in medicine. An in vitro validation of 5 commercial vaporizers was performed with THC-type and CBD-type cannabis. Gas chromatography/mass spectrometry was used to determine recoveries of total THC (THCtot) and total CBD (CBDtot) in the vapor. High-performance liquid chromatography with photodiode array detection was used for the quantitation of acidic cannabinoidsin the residue and to calculate decarboxylation efficiencies. Recoveries of THCtot and CBDtot in the vapor of 4 electrically-driven vaporizers were 58.4 and 51.4%, 66.8 and 56.1%, 82.7 and 70.0% and 54.6 and 56.7% for Volcano Medic®, Plenty Vaporizer®, Arizer Solo® and DaVinci Vaporizer®, respectively. Decarboxylation efficiency was excellent for THC (≥ 97.3%) and CBD (≥ 94.6%). The gas-powered Vape-or-SmokeTM showed recoveries of THCtot and CBDtot in the vapor of 55.9 and 45.9%, respectively, and a decarboxylation efficiency of ≥ 87.7for both cannabinoids. However, combustion of cannabis was observed with this device. Temperature-controlled, electrically-driven vaporizers efficiently decarboxylate inactive acidic cannabinoids and reliably release their corresponding neutral, active cannabinoids. Thus, they offer a promising application mode for the safe and efficient administration of medicinal cannabis.

Brand % of THC in vapor % of CBD in vapor

    Volcano Medic®, - 58.4% 51.4%

    Plenty Vaporizer®, 66.8% 56.1%

    Arizer Solo® 82.7% 70.0%

    DaVinci Vaporizer® 54.6% 56.7%

    Vape-or-SmokeTM 55.9% 45.9%

OK, they only covered 5 types, but it's a start! And it looks like the Arizer wins!

And note that vaping decarbs your weed! That means that the inactive THCA is changed into good old THC! Since there can be 6 times as much THCA as THC in your weed, you get a lot more bounce to the ounce by vaping! You can just keep on puffing and puffing, and get higher and higher. The nice tasting terpines will burn off first, but the THCA is still being changed into THC![IMG]

And even after vaping, the "leftovers will still have some "bounce"!

  2. Thanks for always posting these informational threads Granny! I've switched from combustion to vaporization a year and a half ago and never looked back. More blades should realize the benefits of vaping vs smoking.

  3. Hi Granny this is scott herbwarrior420 figured this must be u lol

I also posted your list on our weed dynasty biotechnology on facebook page . Post a lot of news studies and things concerning cannabis

  5. Yep! I'm always educating folks, Scott! And you didn't waste any time joining up, I see! [IMG] lol Keep an eye out for Badkittysmiles- she is our local recipe expert. She might be able to help you with your salve problems! One of the things I love about GC is that "mature" cannabis users are welcome, and listened to, here.

Blades, Scott and I met in the Yahoo news comment section. He's a nice guy, so I invited him on over! [IMG]

I won't be around much for a week or so- I'm working like crazy on the new 2016 Granny Storm Crow's List. (For those of you who don't usually venture into the medical section, check out this older, very much smaller version of my List - https://forum.grasscity.com/medical-marijuana-usag...) I've added a lot of sections since then, including an interesting one on "Cultivation".

If any of you'd like a free copy of the 2016 version later on in February, just PM me your email, or see my sig for my email! I'll add you to the mailing list. (Back to working on the List- but that study was so cool, so I just HAD TO post it up!)

Great link, SC. We really need to see many more studies like this. The quicker we can get cannabis rescheduled from schedule one, the better.

btw, I reposted this, in part, over at FC. Hope ya don't mind. Great info.

And look at the Solo as compared to the Cano. Must be all that condensation that takes place on the inside surfaces of the bag, eh? I've been stating this concern for years. But then.......what's DaVinci's excuse?

  7. Good post granny. I'm glad I read the capsule warning link back when I made my first batch...

  8. Thank you, Iwien! I hadn't gotten over to Plos One to "mine" them for studies just yet! Quite frequently, PubMed will just have the abstract, but another site will have the full study. I'll have to go back and redo the entry in my List to link to the full study.
And I never mind folks re-posting my stuff! The whole idea of the List is to get the info out there to everyone! [IMG]

Well, I have just about a week before the cut-off date for the January 2016 version of "Granny Storm Crow's List" and there are so many studies to read! Catch you guys later! [IMG]

I'm no virgin to smoking cannabis... But why are people trying to vape a solid? I've tried vaping dry herb and for the most part it just chars the weed and wasted it. It tastes like crap and smells like it too. Someone tell me how you're not wasting your herb when you don't extract it into a concentrated form before vaping first? Science tells you solid>liguid>gas. How is it efficient? Smoking herb gives you up to 25% thc when vaping is over 90%...but vaping a solid isn't the same as vaping concentrates.

  10. Then you either used a crappy vaporizer or you improperly used a good one.

  11. What's a Volcano Medic? I thought there were only two Volcanos, the Digit and the Classic.

  12. Arizer Air numbers should be basically the same as the Solo right? Yay :D

I'd really like to see some numbers on the MFLB though

  13. Cool! More awesomeness from the solo! I love mine!
I'd also like to see some numbers on the mflb.

  14. Maybe that all glass pathway has something do with the efficiency of the Solo.

Pretty impressive. Good read, and thanks for sharing.

  15. I'm selling my Storz and Bickel Crafty if anyone is interested send me a message. It's in perfect condition with very few hours of use. Just turns out vaping isn't really my thing
