One left brain dead and 5 critical after trials with cannabinol do based pain killer

  1. Hey guys,

I know this looks a very negative post, but I've seen breaking news on BBC today one volunteer has been left brain dead and five others are in critical conditions after testing an oral drug rumoured to be based on cannabinoids.

My personal opinion is that it seems a bit suspect that cannabinoids could do this to a person, and obviously we all know that big pharma companies like to push their own drugs, so it looks a bit of a smear on the use of cannabis and its derivatives as a medical drug to me.

  2. I smell Bullshit
I read the same, and they did not release what other compounds were in the trial drug
I also believe it could have been another drug in it because the trial drug was being used on Leukemia patients

  3. BBC = voice of the House of Windsor and ergo voice of the corporate elite who want to keep cannabis illegal.

Don't read the bbc "news", it's like filling a petrol car with suggary diesel.

  4. I hope it wasn't anything related to cannabis because of the effect it's had, but thats the rumour anyway.

I agree I dislike the BBC, there news has got more and more right wing and controlled as the Tories have gained more power, I got a notification on my phone from the BBC is all!

  5. Not having a dig lol, just analysing the bbc.
This means it isn't news and hence my view of the BBC. There is no right or left wing. Only us and them. They rule, we get ruled on.

    Real news - twitter.

  6. I don't do clinical trials or anything stupid like that. I smoke my flowers and love life. They cannot say shit about flower smoking.

  7. Not only that we are talking about an organisation in which sexual abuse is more rife and more covered up than the catholic church. I do wonder if old Esther was introducing kids through child line to people at the bbc to "help" them.

The only good thing about the BBC is Radio 1 extra & asian network.

  8. Me neither; but if the headlines said something like "cannabis based drug leaves volunteer brain dead", it isn't going to to weed any favours, especially not medical marijuana.

  9. We will see more of this in the UK as the subject of legalisation is pushed again and again and again.

We are getting to the point in which they can't keep it illegal without looking like liars. Their only option is scare stories.

  10. The drug being tested is a painkiller meant to treat anxiety and motor disorders, and was designed to work on the body's endogenous cannabinoid system, which deals with pain. Earlier reports said the drug was related to cannabis, but Health Minister Marisol Touraine insisted the drug -- developed by the Portuguese science group Bial -- does not contain cannabis or cannabis extracts.

  11. That's good to hear!

  12. Yeah just read that. Doesn't mean the anti-pot idiots won't take this and run with it. What's wrong with just using weed? So fucking stupid.

"Marisol Touraine, the French health minister, later said that the pill did not contain cannabis or its derivatives but acted on the body's endocannabinoid system.

  13. I saw this on the BBC too and was immediately furious. Sure, you can write a story online afterwards correcting your mistake.

But the damage has already been done, a bunch of folk saw the story on TV and have formed an opinion that cannabis is dangerous.

It's a shame, I use to like the BBC, but I hate how they pretend to be impartial and bipartisan. They are so pro-establishment, because, hey "Don't bite the hand that feeds you". The torries scream it's left wing, as they slowly threaten to sink it, if it doesn't play ball with them.

The UK seriously needs to wake up. They are miles behind the US and Europe. Posh Eton boys, with their stiff upper lips, don't want to be known as the government that legalised or decriminalised weed. Imagine what their rich daddies and thatcher would think? Ideology over evidence seems to be the way in politics.

  14. yes. I saw the press release and marijuana WAS NOT used in the testing. ❎

  15. Lets use our basic reasoning everyone. 1-If cannabis was an ingredient, it wasn't the only one nor was it the cause of that shit. 2-Assuming it was(which it wasnt) only lab tampering or altering could possibly create such a harmful form of cannabis. Aaaah sweet sweet propaganda

  16. The reality isn't so. In most of the US having more than an oz is a felony. Having an oz here and at worst you will be in andd our of the police station in an hour or two. Some police forces are even refusing to go after growers unless somone actually reports them for doing so.

Agree it is ideolgy though. Cameron is renowned for smoking weed at Oxford, his friends at AstraZ etc wouldnt allow him to legalise it. Cameron is 100% puppet of the City of London.

  17. I would not be surprised to hear that Monsanto had a hand in this.

  18. Sorry for the delay in responding to this subject. I've been over at Yahoo News doing "damage control" and explaining to folks what happened.

First off, it was a "FAAH inhibitor", BIA 10-2474, that did the damage, not any sort of cannabinoid. "FAAH" is an enzyme that breaks down anandamide, an endocannabinoid which works as a neurotransmitter in your brain. Anandamide is similar to, but not identical to, THC. Under normal circumstances the FAAH rapidly breaks down anandamide, so it doesn't build up in your brain. Even a little too much (or too little) anandamide can disrupt brain functions.

So they were doing Stage 1 of a drug trial where they figure out a "safe" dose for the next stage of the trial. During this first stage, different doses are given to see if there is an upper or lower limit of effectiveness, and if there are any unexpected dangerous side effects. This poor guy (and likely the others who are hospitalized) got the maximum dose and it turned out to be an extreme overdose.

Without the FAAH in his brain to get rid of the "overdose" of neurotransmitters, the poor guy's brain got "fried"- rather like what would happen if you plugged a 110v. appliance into a 220 circuit.

The connection between THC and anandamide is through the endocannabinoid system- they both activate the CB1 and CB2 receptors.

Hope hat helps to clear things up.

    Granny
