hi all looking for some help with chlorine , my tap water has recently changed smell and stinks of chlorine. had Scottish water out today and gave me a chlorine reading of 4.6 but said it was normal. because I live next to the water factory etc.
I usually leave my 20 litres out 24 hours with a stir at bedtime and when I get up. I done the same with the "chlorine water" but It still stank like hell. Would this affect my plant? Any one know what level off chlorine a plant can take without damage?
And the ph of my water is great at 6.0 just smells really bad now. Thanks for any help.

  2. Are you growing in soil?

Most plants grown in soil can handle chlorine better than hydro for the simple fact that the chlorine binds to organic matter in the top inch or so of soil. Soil microbes rebound very quickly unless the levels are extremely high.

If you're leaving your water out overnight chances are that most of the chlorine is gassing off/dissipating so I might not worry about it too much.

Just keep an eye on them and unless you see some real negativety, sleep well.

  3. add more days of sitting out. 3+ should leave you pretty chlorine free no matter how close you are to the water plant

  4. I would air ate the water somehow if you do leave it out for a few days so it no get stagnate

    Keep it simple s

  5. Get a small aquarium pump. With air stones, all the chorine should be gone in a day.

To properly address this you first need to get the water report or call the water treatment agency to find out if they treat your supply with chlorine or chloramine. Chlorine is unstable and will evaporate fairly quickly while chloramine is more stable and wouldn't effectively evaporate.

My supply has chlorine but I don't bother with letting my water sit out except for the first month or so of the plant's life when they don't need as much water and I can just leave a gallon of water in the tent. Once they're drinking lots of water I give it to them straight out of the tap. I'm growing in soil.

  7. uv light helps get rid of the chlorine, I'm the first housing development right next to the plant and I have to leave mine out for 3 days ,drops ph from over 8.5 to about 7

  8. Chlorine is a gas and will evaporate out of an open container in several hours. Most people give it 24.
