3D Printing Shop

  1. 3D Printing has a lot in common with the internet, and will work in sync with the internet to revolutionize the world (IMO). It will lead to decentralized manufacturing and production that will be extremely difficult for large companies to compete with. Not only that, you can 3D print things that are impossible to make with any other known means. I came across a site with tons of independent people participating in a market to offer broad ranges of products. From car parts, jewelry, and cellphone cases, to sculptures, lamps, toothbrush holders and a one million dollar platinum cube.

I am not associated with this website or anyone on it, I just love the possibilities of this novel technology. Enjoy!

Please share any cool info you have regarding 3D printing.

  2. When 3d printers are available for household use is when things will really get interesting

  3. They are, I know a few people who have had them for awhile now. Maybe you mean when they become like PC's

  4. yes. When they are so common anyone will literally just ask a friend at work to make them something

  5. Not only that, think about its application for space exploration. You wouldn't need spare or replacement parts, in fact I have heard they may be able to 3D print food.

  6. You can get a small 3D printer for less than the latest iphone. There are a number of them for less than $300US. Granted you need to drop about $1,500.00 for one big enough to really be useful. Plenty of free open source software for them. As a tool for high production they will never be cost effective....to slow. As a tool for prototypes and proof of concept they are awesome i.e. design part, 3D print for fitment test then have it injection molded at pennies per piece. Saves on mold costs for prototypes. A well stocked shop with a small CNC milling machine, lathe, 3D printer and laser cutter and I could do anything!
