Lighting for small veg tent

Discussion in 'Lighting' started by Mr. French, Dec 27, 2015.

  1. I am trying to set up a small tent for starting and vegging a single plant before moving it to flower. My veg tent is small 16x16x48. Looking for the minimum light to start and keep a single plant vegging (and healthy) for 1.5-2 months from clone before transferring to 3x3x72 with a platinum p450. I would prefer led just for power draw/heat. I came across this and was wondering if anyone had any insight

Worth mentioning I am trying to use a $50 HD gift card I got for xmas. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

  2. Yeah, after reading the reviews just completely ignore that second link.

  3. The Box stores have LED lights in a spectrum you need... High and Low

Guys use CFL's.... No reason these lights won't work...
I saw a different 90w led for about $20 bucks at Home Depot

    Watch luems and spectrum ( 2700 -6500 )

  4. Is 600 lumens sufficient?

  5. Sounds low...

    I can't remember for sure...
But I think you can find them close to 1000
    .
    I looked at a 90w LED bulb...
    I think it was that high ( 1000 )

    I'll try a quick search...

  6. This is a 90w for $24 bucks...
    It has 1500 LumenCree

I can't remember if 2700 is Veg or Bud ?....
It's bright... So it must be Veg...
You'll need another Bulb in the 6500 range for Budding...

My Galaxyhydro does both ( Full Spectrum LED)
    But it's about $120...
But most of my vegging is under a 4ft florescent light...

    Amazon has the bulbs cheapest...

  9. I've got a platinum p450 for flowering, I'm just trying become more perpetual by setting up an area to start and veg the next clone.

  10. That Cree looks like exactly what i need, especially being they carry them at HD if I hit a snag.

  11. Yeah... Box stores have most of the stuff I need...
    .
    Cheaper that way...

  12. Earlier I got the light backwards...

    6500 for vegging...

  14. A little off topic, but while we are sharing, I'm having a bit of trouble with my new girl and I was curious for your input. I'm running a platinum p450, through the first two weeks after sprouting I kept it at 40" off the top, after two weeks I lowered it to 36" the next day my plant looked burned up. I raised it back to 40" and things seemed to right themselves. Now I've got about three inches of growth and my next set of leaves are showing the same symptoms. According to everything from platinum and grow journals using the same light, I should be at 24". I'm in an organic self mixed soil (jerrys recipe outlined in his thread) I'm watering with water set out for 24 hrs and a ph of 6.5. Temps are between 74-78 daytime and 69-74 nighttime. I'm maintaining 45% humidity. And this is how she looks. ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1454405760.456928.jpg

  15. The plant looks good... It might have been splashed when watering...

    Putting nutes on the leaves...

I did do some LED vegging...

But the clones were started out on Florescent...

and LED was far away until later....

Seems that seedlings need very little until Bigger...

    .
    .

My latest clones are under Florescent until the others finish budding...

They are close... I'm looking for more Amber...

    I've tested all water here...

I use Lake water.... But it's frozen now...

Snow and rain test very good too...
    .
Your water sounds good... Do you know the PPM's ?

    I avoid our well water... 241 PPM's ( Hard Water )

All the other water around has about 11 PPM's...

    Here's last years OUTSIDE grow...

  16. They are so beautiful in their natural environment. Not positive the ppms of my water, but I hear a lot that it's not hard. It's funny you say that about splashing nutes on the leaves, that seems to be the general consensus and all internet searching seems to imply the same. The problem is that I'm not giving any nutrients, just water.

  17. Yeah , But something in the soil did it... ( Splashed )

I got that on my outside grow before... When the plants were very small...

I was more careful after that...
    .

  18. When I start using the Cree bulb, what kind of distance should I use on seedlings? And should I move it down later?

  19. I set mine at least two feet away...

Watch for "Stretching" in case the light is too far...

Those Moister meters have a light gauge too...

    1000 is good

Maybe put your hand by the plant...

I've heard if the light hurts your hand.... it'll hurt your plant...

I think .... Like the SUN.... You have to get it acclimated to it slowly...

My other plants ( Mothers ) have been vegging under florescent for about 3 months...
