What Makes A Good Rap/Hip Hop Song?

Discussion in 'Music genres, Bands and Artists' started by JazzyHollins, Dec 18, 2015.

  1. What makes a rapper's song good? Does he/she have a good chorus, or if they make a lot of comments about how much shit they have..? Idk. Something like that lol

the instrumental more than anything makes the song. A good and memorable beat with a rapper that can ride the rhythm of it with a flow of lyrical rhymes that are syncopated in unison. In street terms: that grimy lyrical shit.
    Here's an example:

  3. i think its anything that resonates with you, some beats resonate regardless of whos on it. some guys just have a delivery that drives home their point in a super meaningful way. If the point is how much money they have by the 2nd verse you should feel like youve made money listening to the song somehow, like youre about to go slang in the streets.

  4. the beat and rhythm of the rapper

  5. meaningful lyrics, beat, and flow

  6. For me, it's gotta be something akin to Ice JJ Fish. I mean tbh, I don't even think Kanye can keep up with his bars.

  7. HoldTite all the tru hip hop heads out here on GC! And for me personally it's all about lyrics n flow

  8. Many things imo, lyrics that make you think whether it be politically, spiritually, intelligent word play, and sometime lyrics that touch your soul and resonate deep from the meaning it has in your reality, theres not too many rappers like this now.
And of course a beat that matches the vibe to the song and so the lyrics can flow with it perfectly.

  9. Real rap is good. Used to have meaning. Crafting your lyrics around the essence that the instrumental creates.

  10. Out of the few rap or hip hop songs I like, I could care less what the rapper is talking about.
I'm into the beats and music.

Most of the times I can't understand what the fuck they hollering about anyways.

Eminem has great lyrical skills, he just sounds super nasally.

Immortal technique is also a great lyricist, and has a much better voice.

I like this gore rap, necro. Great with words and beautiful music and beats, music content is too brutal though.

  11. this song is my shit

  12. same as any other type of music ... it is relative to mood and the tastes of the listener. Nothing can make a rap song good to someone if they dont appreciate/cant appreciate any of the things that are being put down their earholes.

for most people if the music is relate-able/can bring up some sort of emotions they attach some sort of memories/feelings to, whether they realize it or not (subconsciously), they will probably like that type of music/song/album.

Its why one day you could ask me if I like drake and I could laugh you off with some jokes... and the next I could be willing to divulge into a conversation about why I do actually like drake.
