Might be getting an F4 Savannah Kitten

  1. So my beloved 13 year old male short-haired Tabby passed away in early October, and the mood around this house has been kind of dull since then. For some crazy reason, I just sort of discovered the existence of these (Savannah cats) over the course of the first month or so after my cat died. I was spending a lot of time researching cats in general online.....Not because I wanted another one right away, but just "because". Like I said, I really don't know why I was spending so much time reading about cats other than the fact that I was going through a tremendous amount of grief over the loss of my own. As fucked up as it sounds, that hit me harder than any loss I've ever experienced in my life. That whole "walking around in a fog" feeling that people talk about going through after the loss of someone close to them....Yeah, for those of you who haven't experienced it, it's real. I was somewhat shocked that losing Dick (my cat) had that much of a profound effect on me, but it did. He's now interned in an urn on our mantle, with an absolutely beautiful painting of him that my mom did for us.

My wife and son miss Dick just as much as I do, though they only knew him for about a third of his life. He had behavioral attributes that are very sought after in cats: Playfulness, loyalty, docile, friendly, etc. I knew when the time was right that I'd open up our home to another cat, but I've also kind of held out hope that I might be lucky enough to find a Savannah, because they tend to share the same attributes and are an AWESOME breed. Google them if you don't know about them. Problem is, they're rare as shit......But I just found several literally in my backyard that are ready to go for Christmas week! And males to boot! If all goes well, we'll be welcoming a new member to our family just in time for Christmas! Wish us luck!

Well, we got him. Picked him up today. He's 8 weeks old. Marble fur with hints of the spotting from his Savannah F3 mother. Really cute.....VERY crazy and timid. He's under the bed right now, and it sounds like I have a regular house cat kitten possessed with the spirit of a leopard underneath me. He's eating well though, and just took a nice big shit. As for his physical ability and prowess, I've never seen a kitten that's so coy, stealthy and seemingly intelligent. You can definitely tell there's a lot of wild blood in him. Also you know how kitten's claws are kinda soft? Yeah, not his. He'll fuck you up if you're not careful. As for a name, we're leaning toward calling him "Wimpy".

  3. how tall is this one on all fours and on hind legs?

Thats pretty cool. I've read a bit about those cats. They are a little wilder, their personalities are pretty different from regular cats, or so I've read.

I totally get what you mean though about being very affected by the loss of a pet. A few months ago one of our cats died. I found two stray kittens abandoned near my house and I took them in and we named them Harold and Kumar. They had very different personalities. Harold was incredibly sweet and affectionate, he was like a dog. Also I've never known a funnier cat. Goofy was the only word to describe him. Then, he was less than 2 years old, I left one afternoon to go grocery shopping. The cats come and go outside as they please, but they usually stay right around the house.
Shortly after I got back, my father-in-law got our attention. Harold was just outside the basement door, violently convulsing and covered in blood. His tongue had swollen and blocked his airway and I could see blood around his mouth and paws where he has bitten and scratched himself. I wrapped him in a towel and tried to drive him to the vet as fast as possible, hoping maybe if they could open up his throat he could be saved, but he died in the car. Turned out to be strychnine (rat poison). I can't prove it, but I'm almost certain one of our neighbors did it. The vet did an autopsy and found a lot of ham in his stomach (which he didn't eat here). So someone (aka my nasty neighbor) put poisoned ham somewhere within a few hundred yards of our house with the intention of killing something. I could barely make it through work the next couple days and I thought about him constantly. I still think about him every day when I see his brother Kumar.

A few weeks later, another neighbor's cat was found the same way. And a few weeks before that, a stray cat that I had been caring for disappeared, right around the same time I heard a gunshot at night from said neighbor's house. But we have no proof.

I fucking HATE living here and I can't wait to leave this country. And I'm bringing my other cat with me.

  6. Oh man, you're so lucky! Savannahs are my dream cats, but I don't have the right living space to accommodate them.

  7. Yoo reading that got mad as fuck! Who poisons cats? The fuck ya neighbor think he is? Dexter? I would Nancy Drew his ass, fuck wrong with him? Oh we getting to the bottom of that mystery

  8. What country do you live in? I'd fucking kill those neighbors if I were you.

  9. Sorry I took so long to respond to all the questions. To the poster who asked what I paid, it was $250. I'll post some pics once I've had a chance to dump my phone pics into my computer. His mother is an F3 Savannah and his father is a domestic Tabby, so from what I've read that makes him an F4-F5. His face has some white in it, and the rest of his coat in marbled, with some of the typical Savannah spotting on his legs and back, tail, etc. His ears have the typical striping on them associated with the breed. We've had him for about three weeks now and he's damn near doubled in size. At first he almost kinda looked like a regular kitten with a bit of an odd coat, but now the lanky legs and longer ears are really starting to sprout. I swear he eats his body weight in food everyday, and my God is he STRONG! Temperament-wise, he's very timid, which is funny considering his physical prowess even as a kitten. He plays rougher than any kitten I've ever come across! His mother looked like an F1 to me instead of an F3, also. His other brothers and sisters were sold off much faster because they all had the more typical coat. Nobody wanted Wimpy though, as he was the runt of the litter and had the marbling......I knew that would be the case though, and I knew I wanted him from the get-go as soon as I saw the pics.

Idk why but sometimes I'm not able to quote posts...

    stonerfriend:
Brazil. Hopefully returning to the US by August. I don't believe he meant to poison our cat, I think he meant to poison stray dogs in the area, but still.... People here treat animals terribly. They often treat each other even worse.
My friend recently took in a kitten she found injured in the middle of the road. Based on its injuries and where she found it, she thought it probably wasn't hit, but thrown out the window of a moving car. Some of the stuff I see here makes me sick.

  11. My aunt's dog in California was poisoned by the neighbor with anti freeze. We live on 5 acres of forest so it was pretty fucked up. We did egg they're house and my aunt threw a brick through their window. Someone shot my Jack Russel in the knee with a bb gun there too. Never found out who. Now I live in the south where everyone drops they're animals off anywhere when they're sick of them. Its pretty fucked

  13. How aggressive are those? I can handle a cat, but I wouldn't want the smaller cats to end up getting destroyed every time I'm not home.
