Difference between LED grow lights (9 band) vs LED bulb?

  1. What's the difference between LED grow lights with multiple bands and around 300w vs single LED bulbs that fit a standard light bulb socket? I have 12 9w 800 lumen LED bulbs that were a buck each

  2. most of those 9w bulbs that you find don't have complete spectrums for the plants. They usually only have Red and blue and they don't have the light penetration power of the larger panels. You have 12 9w bulbs but to even get the same amount of light vs a 300w panel you'd have to have 34 of those bulbs. That's not even speaking to spectrum or penetration power. You may be able to get each of those for a buck but all those sockets and plugs and strips to hang them is a bit more also. You can get a cheap 300w panel for $70.

  3. The 8w household bulbs are basically faking it, they are designed to give the appearance of being white and giving a lot of light, but it's just clever engineering that exploits the human eye. As mentioned above, the amount of light actually visible to the plant is small, so even if you had all 12 running it would still be substantially less effective than a 100w of LEDs from a grow panel, or probably less than 100w of CFLs tbh.

  4. thanks for the insight everyone. Very informative.

  5. Where can a get a LED panel.?
