Whats up everyone! I am pondering the age old question of what size pot to use. I chose to put my girls in 3 gallon pots using rockwool as my medium. I chose 3 gallon to be on the safe side of root bound issues before or during floweing but I am wondering if I should have gone larger like 5 gallon. I have seen plenty of grows with 3 foot plants in 2 gallon pot's. Keep in mind my plants are suppercroped as well so a slightly longer veg period in order to get them the height I want them. The plants are 6 weeks old btw...Ideally I would like to go to harvest in the 3 gal. And flip the switch in a few weeks. Any input is appreciated. Thanks for the help. "Elude"
I have gone up to 8 weeks that pulled about 5 oz of dry bud I. A 3 gal. Smart pot. I would also recommend 5 gallon watch for a few days then let 'er rip tater chip!
im in a 3gal coco pot now i was wondering the same, but then ive also heard of guys growing trees in 3 gal pots..
Keep in mind that if you use fabric pots you can grow bigger in smaller pots due to the air pruning nature of fabric pots. I've grown 3 ft plants in 3 gallon fabric pots with no problem but I have found that using 5 gallon fabric pots gives me a better yield.
definitely go to 5 gallon, you'll get a bigger yield forsure. more soil=more area for roots=more buds. It will make your roots a lot stronger and extensive. Also if you like growing bushes an topping which is what I do, in my experience with 5 gal buckets it really makes them grow out with a nice flat top and lots of top colas!
Word! @AteYaRibs4Lunch I top, LST, scrogg em down for flat canopy so Im gonna go with potting up to 5s seems like a better decition unless I flower now which I dont want to their not ready. Thanks!!!
Go to 5's @BHayez Im not experienced with using coco but root growth in all mediums is about the same. The more space they have the better.
I cut gal jugs of distilled water in half and use the bottom half as a pot n poke 4 holes in bottom. Perfect size for vegging!! I veg I that for 2-3 weeks usually then transplant into a 5 gal bucket and give it 2 days to get over the transplant shock then put her into the flowering room works great
also a huge money saver for me bcz I buy distilled water anyways to feed my plants so I got the jugs on deck for potting!!! 88 cents/gallon but I don't buy any nutrients at all
Sorry, to answer the question, mine root for 2 weeks and veg for 6, then flower for 8. All in 3 gal fabric.
Coco and fabric pots seems to be bomb. Lots of root aeration and they expand and dont get root bound in smaller pots. True?
Not a big fan of fabric pots. I had a friend who did an experiment comparing fabric and plastic. Plastic came out as the winner, no competition. The root ball in fabric was almost non existent. I'll see if I can find it. His username is Pokesmot247 They do get rootbound, just takes a lot longer.
I only use rockwool and plastic pots and Im happy. But I do transplant from 3 to 5gallon befor flowering.
