Winter Magic?

  1. I wasn't really sure where to post this, so maaaybe spirituality? //static.grscty.com//public/style_emoticons/default/bongin.gif

Does anyone feel a particular way during the winter? I don't mean the generic being cold, but like there is something more in the air.
I specifically mean during ultra white, ultra snowfall winters. Not to hippy it up too much, but it feels like things are more enchanted somehow, like there is magic in the air of sorts. Partially at least, I think it may have to do something with the fact that everything becomes uniform (white), and that sound gets muffled, so it engages you in a different every-day experience, both visually and audibly. Like reality itself changed her appearance and sound.

Since this is by far the strongest in nature (sorry inner city folks), this video captured what I'm talking about well. Excellent with quality headphones when ultra elevated in a dark room.

Does anyone else feel something like that in the air during a proper winter, or is it all the same to you like all the other seasons, just colder?

  2. Even though I spent the past winter in a Winnebago, and it got quite cold at times, it was beautiful.

The change-up was that I had a great view over a lake; plenty of trees, snow, and ice.

  3. Snow does something to my "soul." Just watching it fall is glorious. Unfortunately it doesn't snow much where I am, but I live all winter for that one shot at it. Also, my brain does funny things to me in late fall and winter, I typically get more depressed around those times. Weird.

  4. Winter is the time for those feels.
Its also the time i listen to black metal non fucking stop

  5. No. We live in the SE US so snow is something that we don't see often...which is totally fine with me. The only thing I feel when I find we're going to have snow is DREAD!!!!! LOL That's one of the great things about people...we're all completely different and are stimulated by different things. Winter is beautiful (in the right place)...I'll give you that, but those who enjoy it can live in the bone chilling cold and ice. I'll stay down here where it's warmer. Heck, we just had our first frost last night. LOL TWW

  6. It's beautiful sure, still cold and depressing as shit by February. I live in northern Alberta, Canada, the temps regularly go down to -40 celcius and winter is like 6 months long, I fucking hate it haha.

  7. Absolutely.

The place makes all the difference. I had several winters in the US. SE and they can be nothing but dark, wet, and cold, without a significant type of snow coating. Winters like that don't have almost any of what I described in the original post. Now that I'm somewhere where I have the coating and muffling, it really reminded me of how special these times can get.

  8. That's brutal. Yeah...that would be another level of cold, and the main and perhaps only goal the average human has there is just staying the hell inside and surviving. I would however like to see a Canadian winter at some point. Lots of beautiful nature up there.

  9. I'm with you on the depressive features, especially during late fall, and weak winters where basically all we get is an extended and colder fall. Mostly rain, no snow.

Nope, i HATE snow and anything to do with it or being wet and cold...I would be fine going the rest of my life and never seeing it again

I feel that magic in the air during the spring/summer, when its a beautiful clear day and its warm

  11. I miss real winters....

Moved to Vegas in middle school (Reno was starting to warm up from global warming anyway)

    And now I'm in Hawaii

Hopefully I get to see a real Christmas again in the near future

  12. I was in the same boat. I moved from an area that would get heavy white winters to an area that may get a day of slushy snow per year. If that.

Definitely get to miss the real winter.

  13. I feel this dude, the things I think about and the way I think about them have a higher tinge of magic than other seasons. Especially with snow on the ground out in the woods. There's a feeling of higher complexity and purity. Summer seems to have a rapid in the moment pace to it where winter has the opposite slowed down, very observational, whimsical feel

  14. I dislike winter.. but not snow. Since I moved, we don't get much snow in the winter.. and it usually doesn't last long on the ground. Instead, we just get a cold and rainy winter.

But I'll take a good snowfall any day. For me, there is nothing better than walking out to a clean slate. Always get stuck seeing the product of man, it's nice when nature covers all that shit up. I think that is why I like a good snowfall.. gives me the feels like when I'm out in the wilderness and can't see or hear the presence of mankind.

  15. I think a couple of the posts already touched on a major differentiation to be made when talking about winter. Everyone hates a slushy, dark, and rainy harsh fall basically. No one is a fan of those "winters".

If however you are fortunate enough to live somewhere where true snowfall happens, especially if it's something with amazing nature around it, like the alps or nordic forests, things start getting really....idk.....mythical?

I've been in the woods in Denmark while everything was blanket covered. The air is just heavy with all things Viking. Like the past is more felt at that moment and time. If you add the herb (or one of the other things that grow there) to the equation things can get ridiculous.

  16. Smoke good weed, go to winter forest and listen WARDRUNA there! It's awesome feeling!

I love winter... especially when we get snow... I moved to Tahoe for the mountains... and this year, feels like it's gonna be a good one...

It was dumping earlier... we've already gotten more snow this year than all of last year.

Hail Ullr! The Nordic God of playing in the snow.

Today across the street from my favorite bar...

    Powder day tomorrow!(today)

This storm will hopefully open up more (all) terrain around Tahoe...

I love it when you're on the mountain skiing or boarding and you can only see like 50 feet in front of you... just enough to make your turns but not enough to see all the way down the hill... at that place you are in your own little world... like being in a snow globe... you have faith that there's nothing to fear... but you don't really know what's beyond that fog...

  19. I definitely know what you mean Oni, I feel much the same. You point out the sound deadening of snow which I agree plays a part.

I also wonder if it has anything to do with a subtle difference in the electric potential of the dry air, possibly higher negative ions? I wonder if the crystalline structure of the snowflakes plays a part?

I certainly feel it but idk what exactly it is.

  20. Isaiah 1:18\tCome now, and let us reason together, saith the LORD: though your sins be as scarlet, they shall be as white as snow; though they be red like crimson, they shall be as wool.

Every snow fall reminds of the perfect robe of righteousness, that perfect satisfaction to both the prescriptive (law) and penal (justice) parts of God's Holy Law honored and magnified; a matter of "law and Justice" that washes me whiter than snow.
