Marijuana Edibles and Stem Cell Transplant

Discussion in 'Medical Marijuana Usage and Applications' started by scottyyo, Nov 2, 2015.

  1. Hi, my father was recently diagnosed with multiple myeloma which is a form of cancer. he has a stem cell transplant coming up in a few days and we have heard that the chemotherapy part of the process will cause him a lot of pain and nausea. He has been smoking small amounts to relieve his pain, but he isn't supposed to smoke during the stem cell transplant. I just wanted to know if anyone knows any reason why he shouldn't be able to have edibles during the transplant. I bought him a Bhang Dark chocolate bar, which has helped me a lot through recent surgeries. I would appreciate any advice out there, I just want to make absolutely sure that him taking the edibles will be a safe endeavor.

  2. It would seem like from your response that the doctor in charge of his stem cell treatment knows about your father's medical marijuana use, if not, then this would be important information for him to disclose. Marijuana is a drug that when ingested affects the cardiovascular and immune systems, and can have unclear interactions with other drugs or treatments, therefore, his doctor may be siding with caution. You can always ask the doctor for specifics. I'm not familiar with this treatment, but if it is a lengthy procedure, then he should have a conversation with the doctor about his pain management.
