Galatians 5: 19-21

  1. Now the deeds of the flesh are evident, which are: immorality, impurity, sensuality, idolatry, sorcery, enmities, strife, jealousy, outbursts of anger, disputes, dissensions, factions, envying, drunkenness, carousing, and things like these, of which I forewarn you, just as I have forewarned you, that those who practice such things will not inherit the kingdom of God. (Galatians 5:19-21)

I know I am starting a shit storm and I apologise. But I must know from all christians that smoke marijuana (to get stoned, not for medicine) , what does this scripture mean to you? The word drunkeness not only means from alcohol, but getting high on any drug for the sake of getting high.

    Romans 10:9
If you declare with your mouth, "Jesus is Lord," and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved.

    Genesis 1:29
Then God said, "I give you every seed-bearing plant on the face of the
whole earth and every tree that has fruit with seed in it. They will be
    yours for food.

Just another one of the bibles many contradictions dude.

  3. being drunk is very different then being high when your really drunk you don't know what your doing and people can take advantage of that…..BUT when your very stoned you know and have all your whits about you…..At least I have never been stoned out of my mind even on a 3 gram firecracker that made me pass out for a few seconds after I came to I knew exactly what was going on and why

  4. What does this scripture mean? Simple. That all men (all persons) are fallen (sinful). If what you are really asking is marijuana intoxication sinful, the answer is yes. I will try to stay within the bounds of intoxicants, i.e. alcohol and/or drugs. Why is it sinful? Anything that intoxicates distances you (heart, soul (your mind) and spirit from God is sinful. Many people who smoke pot feel it doesn't do this. Wrong, it does. Proof? Pray earnestly, sincerely and honestly straight, then try it stoned. You will notice a difference. Using a verse that discusses fruits, nuts and veggies as a justification for smoking or eating pot is BS folks. Why? Example #1: Opium, morphine and heroin are derived from the Opium Poppy. Do you think it is a sin to be addicted to either of the three??? Example #2: Tobacco. How many of you folks advocate using tobacco?

Why did God invent marijuana or the opium poppy if it is an intoxicant? Marijuana is still the best rope available anywhere especially concerning salt water applications. The opium poppy when used properly is an excellent pain killer.

Do I smoke dope. Yes. I am a fallen/sinful person. Jesus Christ came into this world because all men are fallen persons and will continue to be so. None of us live up to the law and the law was given in the Old Testament to show us that none of us can meet the requirement of 613 laws and commandments. God new this and sent us Jesus Christ so that we may find redemption because none of us could fullfil the laws and commandments.

  5. To me, this passage just means "Don't have any fun or you will go to hell" but then again, I am not a christian...

  6. in the old testament sinners went to hell

Jesus supposedly came to fix that because all humans were sinners and heaven was empty

  7. Moral depravity (Rom. 3:11-18) is the result of legal depravity. It is subjective having to do with our minds, affections, and wills (i.e., our hearts), our thoughts, motives, character and conduct. As the result of Adam's guilt legally imputed to us, we receive Adam's fallen human nature. The fruit and effect of Adam's sin is total ruin, objectively and subjectively. The Bible says that all of us by nature are wicked and evil, sinful, ruined. The Bible says that all by nature “walk after and mind the things of the flesh,” “at enmity with God,” “not subject to the law of God,” “carnal,” “ungodly.” All of these terms describe all natural men and women, all born in Adam, even believers before God saves them. They describe all who are legally and morally depraved. But what
are the main evidences of this depravity? Before we show this scripturally, let's correct a common but deadly misconception.

Moral depravity does not mean that all by nature are immoral, irreligious and unconcerned. It does not mean that all are equally
bad, or perverts, or that any are as bad as they could be. It does not mean that fallen man is totally destitute of moral virtues. It does not mean that fallen man cannot and is not responsible to make moral choices. Many who claim to believe in total depravity always describe the depravity of man by using examples of sexual lust. Now sexual lust outside of marriage is sinful, and many times it can be one of the evidences of a person who is in a totally depraved state. But sexual lust by itself is no evidence of total depravity. David lusted for Bathsheba, yet, at that time, he was not totally depraved. The Bible says David at
that time was a justified sinner, righteous and holy in God's sight. Now David's lust for Bathsheba was sinful, and he ought not to have done it. David was a sinner, but he was a sinner saved by grace. David carried out his sinful thoughts in sinful actions, and his sin led to other great sins. David's sin was the product of self-love. David, just like all sinners, needed a righteousness he
could not produce. He needed forgiveness by God's grace. And David had this in the Person and work of His Substitute, the Lord Jesus Christ. David believed God's Gospel.

Now consider a man who becomes religious and decides to reform his life. He joins a monastery trying to get away from the world outside and keep himself pure from lustful thoughts. When he has such lustful thoughts, he does penance by beating himself with a whip. Yet with all his efforts to keep himself pure, he is totally depraved, ungodly, unrighteous, guilty and
defiled, because he is without a righteousness that equals the demands of God's law and justice. Another thing to consider
in light of this is the fact that a person cannot be totally depraved, guilty, and condemned and totally saved, justified, and pardoned at the same time. There is no middle state between lost and saved. Considering then that many who are lost, totally depraved, do indeed appear righteous unto men, we must look to God's Word to see the reality of total depravity.

The true evidences of total depravity are things we do not recognize by nature, totally foreign to our natural reasonings,
and things we will not receive by nature. The true evidences of total depravity are things common to all without exception before salvation (“no difference”). All without exception are not equally moral or immoral, but all without exception are equally depraved before salvation. And even totally depraved sinners can recognize and hate immoral, perverse sins, such as the crimes of Hitler, sexual deviates, drunks, thieves etc. But the real evidences of total depravity are things we do not recognize and will not receive by nature. Consider passages such as Matthew 7:21-23 and John 3:3-6; 8:44 and Romans 10:1-4. In these examples we see religious people who appeared righteous outwardly and many who were sincere and dedicated, but they were totally depraved, guilty, because they were void of a righteousness that answers the demands of God's law and justice. Their depravity was revealed by the doctrine they believed and by which they lived. It was doctrine that dishonored
every attribute of God's redemptive character, denied the Person and atoning work of the Lord Jesus Christ, and allowed
sinners room for boasting in their efforts.

  8. Drunkeness by itself It not necessarily a bad thing. I believe it means beligerant, drunk disordly conduct type deal.

  9. Yuri...Galatians was written after Christ.

  10. yea.... Christianity is kinda fucked up

It triggered my evolution into atheism

    Now I am more evolved

  11. speaking of jealousy

‘I the Lord your God am a jealous God, visiting the iniquity of the fathers upon the children unto the third and fourth generation' – Exodus 20.5

In regards to you question, I found no direct or even implied prohibition on cannabis or any mind altering substance. Perhaps alcohol, but I would suggest drunkeness would be a term for alcoholism, not simply getting drunk.

Back to cannabis, there is reason to believe the sweet cane or kaneh-bosm used in anointing oil was infused with 9 lbs of cannabis. If Jesus was healing with it, I don't see why followers of Jesus would pretend it's prohibited.

  12. Excellent words of wisdom! I am flesh and by God's own words, that means I am a hot mess. We all are...even those who feel they are the most righteous. I've grappled with this issue over the years myself and prayed a lot about it. In all the years I've used the stuff, I've never felt conviction by Him over it. I guess He knows that even though I'm not medically approved for the stuff, it helps me in many ways.
Many think the Bible is contradictory. To those who try to pull verses out of thin air without understanding the context in which they were written, it can easily seem this way. But if you'll bother to read the before and after, the passages will make sense because God didn't allow anything in that Bible to create confusion.
All I can do is speak for myself here, but my heart is right because He lives in it. When God rains down conviction on me, I'll have to walk away from it. So far, that's not been the case. We tithe off any money we make from our room...though we don't tell the preacher where it came from. LOL We buy Christmas every year for 4 or 5 families with the profit from our grow. We pay bills throughout the year for needy families in our area with some of the money too. Though what I'm doing is not looked at as being good by the standards of many, my hope is that we can make a difference for others with what it brings into our household.
One's relationship with God is personal. We all have to deal with it in our own way. He is always there offering himself to us. We just have to open the door and give him a chance. My hope is that those of you out there who have never met Him and have him in your heart will realize that He loves you more than anything and made the ultimate sacrifice by allowing his only son to die on the cross for our sins. The world as we've known it is coming to an end. By prophecy, the fields are ripe for his return. Don't wait until it's too late and take care of your eternity now. Having a true relationship with Christ doesn't cut all the fun out of your life...hardly! It allows you to experience true peace and joy every day knowing that your future is secure. I wouldn't take anything for that feeling of peace that I carry every day in my life...regardless of what comes my way. Eternity is a really long time folks and it's not something I would want to take a chance with.

  13. rape is not on the list... but factions is. sucks for u protestants. catholic priests, youre alright

  14. The most relevant six words in the WHOLE thread...

    Jesus? Meh....

I personally don't believe the hype...

  15. Sorry, I don't quite understand what you're conveying, can you be more specific?

  16. The only time is now...

It's about keeping your mind focused on God... so when we sin it's because we weren't focused on God in that moment... so we are not "inhereting his kindgom" in that moment... but God's Love being infinite, God figured we'd make some mistakes... so God gives us more time...

And if we focus on God now, we "inherent his kingdom" which in my estimation is being content in knowing God's Love.

You're not punished for your sin, you're punished by your sin.

    ---

Drunkenness IMO means alcohol, which is the most dangerous drug IME... personally, I use drugs to get high... higher... closer to most high...

It's when we become dependent on drugs to maintain our contentment/realization of God's kingdom, we put the drug ahead of God and then the drug/world becomes our God.

"He whose mind is focused on God shall see God."

And when you focus on God you don't become sinless... you just sin less.

  17. you seem to know your stuff how do you feel about the 7 pounds of mj in the holy anointing oil?

  18. honestly sometimes i feel closer too God and my mind is more still when I smoke weed but i never feel like i don't know what Im doing.
i think anything can be misused and become a replacement for God and thats the real danger. Alcohol and weed shouldn't be in the same category.
the stuff drs try n hand out is scarier.

  19. i smoke soo much that i function normally. even driving... because of anxiety disorders, it helps me

  20. You guys make me laugh. The way you talk about the bible like it's the ultimate law... Jesus said the ultimate law above everything is LOVE. Love God, love yourselves, children, family, neighbors, enemies... LOVE EVERYONE, JUDGE NO-ONE... And can someone please answer me why everyone prays to Jesus and worships him instead of God. Jesus said do not worship him, but fear and worship God. Yes he does for our sins so we have the chAnce to go to heaven. But We look up at him on the big crosses in the fronts of the churches when we pray, to him and not God. That is techni9 speaking according to the new testament as a graven image. A statue that is being prayed to... We aren't supposed to pray in public. So why do we pray at church. It is supposed to be sacred. I'm sorry... I can go on & on and point out so many things that 99% of people miss.
