So on to powering fans now! This is quite different than the LEDs for 2 reasons. First with the LEDs they get strung in series so the full current passes through each component while the voltage drop across each component was added up figure out the total voltage. With the fans we will be wiring them in parallel so these principals are actually reversed! The second big difference is the fans need a constant voltage, while the Amperage can vary slightly, as opposed to the LEDs which need a Constant Amperage while the voltage can vary slightly! So with 3 fans, each rated to run at 12Vdc @ 450mA, we need a driver capable of 450mA x 3 fans for a total of 1350mA. As I mentioned, unlike when wiring in series, the Amperages get added together and the Voltage get applied fully to each component. So with these specifications in mind we can look for a driver to power the fans. To stay consistent we will use the Meanwell PLC-30-12 to power the fans. You can find the data sheet here, http://www.meanwell.com/webapp/product/search.aspx?prod=plc-30 This driver outputs a constant 12Vdc just like we want and can handle 0-2500mA which more than covers out 3 fans!

  2. So I noticed a bit of a mistake that I overlooked in regards to the single diode string. When trying to source the Photo red XP-E didoes I found they are not easily found in single quantities so we will change the diodes up a little and go with 22 royal blue (475nm), 22 red (625nm), and 22 far red (660nm). I also forgot to take into account that the Red and far red diodes both run at 2.1Vdc and not 3.1Vdc like the royal blue diodes! The next entry will focus on binning and sourcing diodes!

When trying to source the Photo red XP-E didoes I found they are not easily found in single quantities so we will change the diodes up a little. I also found that the XP-E2 series of Diodes are easier to find as well in some cases. So instead we will go with 22 royal blue (475nm), 22 red (625nm), and 22 far red (660nm). I also forgot to take into account that the Red and far red diodes both run at 2.1Vdc and not 3.1Vdc like the royal blue diodes which brings our total voltage to 160.6Vdc! The next entry will focus on binning and sourcing diodes!

  5. 10 140 mm PC Fans will run off the PLC-30-12 driver [IMG] you can go ac 110/120 VAC on fans also..more noise , more cooling from a SINGLE

  6. Ahhh Yes!!! AC axial fans are a great alternative as well! Very powerful, very loud, very effective and driverless! I have a few that I've used to vent my Auto/Veg cabinet! Great alternative that I hadn't even considered!

  7. Running them soft also increases the efficiency!! More bang for your buck! It cost more upfront to build but it will pay for itself in the long run with the money saved due to the increase in efficiency. Hope this makes sense

  8. Had NO idea I was your inspiration! That's AWESOME brother, especially since your light is performing so well. You gotta teach me how to make one of those strip veg lights u have. Soldering sucks!!! Not sure I could do it haha! BTW I didn't use a vero29, I ised a CXB3070 3000k top bin and ran it with a meanwell 1400ma

  9. A lot of people don't like realstyles but he has helped me alot, I can literally call the dude and he's on the other end guiding me. I personally would include him in that list. He does rub many the wrong way tho lol

    Hey Cali!!!

    Thanks for dropping in!

That's an impressive plant for just 50W or so of cree brother!

Is that your only DIY build?

I've been looking at some of the vero chips lately to mess around with!

I'm hoping to get the next segment up about binning and sourcing diodes this weekend. It's going to be a busy one with thanksgiving weekend up north here this weekend but I hope to at least get the 3W binned and sourced!

  11. Soldering is easy when you practice on some junk wires , 2" heatsink strips from heatsink usa
    some small angle 1" aluminium and 1/8" x 1" flat stock 1 1/4 " 8x32 bolts and nuts, 28 xlm2 cree stars 3.70 a piece
and the beast driver..it was easy brother
nah not gonna put that guy on the list because he learned from all those other guys , not very detailed imo
    WwW

  12. thanks buddy, i think the other guy had 4 Vero's around a mars 2 something .so much stuff
    being processed LOL
lemme know when you wanna get started..i listed most of the main stuff on one of these posts LOL

  13. had to go search through my subscribe page to figure out who's light you were talkin bout because it rung a bell. I believe it was shred N toke. I'll let you know when I'm ready, appreciate it!

  14. that is the guy i thought , thanks man

  15. Thank you for this thread, PsypherE. Subbed up! :bongin:

  16. ill have to do a proper guide too.

I built some Vero 29's. Checkout my current grow for current results.
