Smart pots, fabric pots, pots.

  1. I think my newborn seedlings are experiencing some root rot already just being in solo cups with 4 holes for drainage. I want to know what is the best pot to use for the best aeration. I'm using coco coir with growstones by the way. Thank you and much love.

  2. I've used hard plastic pots, paper pots, and fabric pots. The fabric pots are the best. They breathe and let the roots take full advantage of the space in the pot. Best thing I ever used.

  3. Still on my first grow, only used solo cups and plastic pots. No problems with them yet except i had a couple roots pop out the bottom of the solo cups. I've heard good things about the smart pots.

  4. Smart pots are fabric pots right? Do you have to cut holes in the fabric for drainage or no?

Smart Pots, Root Pots, Root Pouches etc are all fabric pots yes. And no, no holes are required. The whole entire pot is breatheable fabric. No need for rocks at the bottom either. Basically, the fabric is penetrable by the teeny tiny roots, and once they hit the wall and see the light, they prune themselves back, rather than spinning around the sides and bottom of a hard pot. Also, they drain slightly faster so there is les chance of root rot. However, this does mean more watering in hot weather. But indoors use is great too.

  6. Aero pots are the best in my opinion. Plastic pots but very airy.

  7. Very helpful guys, thanks! I'm going to try out a couple smart pots first :)

  8. I've been told by totally trust worthy people smart pots are the way to go, i might go that way next time unless i'm too broke and do well this time then i will probably just recycle my old pots out of just me being a cheap bastard.

  9. Cheapest place I've found fabric pots is on amazon. They are not the smart pot brand but they are less expensive and I like the handles on them better.

  10. get the smart pot brand not an off brand fabric pot. TRUST ME. they're easier to clean and the newer ones come with handles. I had 2 fabric and both pots grew mold or a fungus on the bottom stunk my flower room up and killed my ladies. never had a problem with smart pots other buying 20 5# at a time and seeing the price.

  11. I will also recommend going with Fabric Pots instead. I have used Smart Pots, Geo Pots, Spring Pots, and am currently using Root Pouches. The best price I have been able to find on large volumes or single Fabric containers is from here:

I actually like the Root Pouches over all the other styles of fabric pots I've tried. Very durable fabric and well put together. I use a SWICK tray to water and the fabric wicks the water perfectly. All around great containers for a great price. If youd like to check them out feel free to stop by my journal here:

Since we are on the topic of containers this may be a helpful article as well.
