Help please Simply can not get seeds to germinate

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by ramx420, Sep 5, 2015.

  1. Okay so I'm on seed # 5 and the shit is getting pretty old (and expensive).... This is my 5th grow so not sure what the deal is!!
These seeds were purchased about 8 months ago and have been kept in a dry dark place ever since but they simply will not germinate fully to plant. I have roughed them up with sand paper in a small box, and soaked them in ph'd distilled water for 24hrs then transferred them to wet paper towels between 2 saucers. But they all "stall out" at this point and will not go any further.

My experience over the years is that after 2-3 days in this state they simply won't go any further. I have even tried to plant them like this but after week in rock-wool under lights they have not budged. Has anyone dealt and fixed this issue before??

Thanks guys - you always save my ass when things go sideways!

  2. Try just putting straight into a starter/seedling soil mix,

  3. Now you put them in soil or rockwool

  4. Those two look like they could just go in some soil to me. No idea man, maybe a problem with the next medium or ph your putting them in. Are they warm enough?

  5. So previously, all of my seeds have come out of the shell at least 1/4 " before being planted. Like the attached image... but these simply won't go beyond what you see in my pics...

Here is what they SHOULD be doing...

  6. It's entirely possible you just have a bad batch of seeds. It can definitely happen. What breeder are they from?

  7. Screw the paper towel , like jack and the beanstalk, it's been happening for 1 million billion trillion years

  8. That paper towel looks soaked maybe youre drowning them

  9. what are you growing in? If soil then just lightly dampen it while mixing and bury the dry seed about half inch and cover the pot with cling film/food wrap to stop the surface drying out. Keep it about 25℃ and it should break surface in 2 or 3 days.

You don't need any of that prep, you certainly don't want to submerge seeds in water. They drown very easily

  10. it also happened to me previously...which I could not do anything about it and buy new seeds.....I bought my seeds from seed-city

  11. Looks like you are drowning them. You want the paper towel damp not soaked and dripping. Oxygen is just as important as water.

Also. KISS. Dump the sand paper, soak em in water, or plant right into your soil/ grow medium.

  12. Thanks for all the replies! These are quality seeds from gorilla seeds and I have never had an issue in the past. You may be right about soaking them too much. I'm gonna give it one more try.... (yeah right I'm gonna try till it works...lol) I grow hydro so once it breaks open I'm gonna throw it in rock wool....

Question - should I DOME the cube or NOT???????

Good grief I feel like such a newb....lol'

    Thanks

  13. Fuck the Rockwool. Put your beans straight into hydroton, 1inch below top of net pot, water level just barely below seeds. 100% germ rate with viable seeds

  14. I've always had 100% success in germinating (not just sweet mj) I place the seeds in damp kitchen paper and place on top of my boiler, it isn't too hot but enough too raise humidity. I've always planted my germi as soon as the root crack. I've never left the root grow long just incase I damage it.

  15. Fuck rockwool man. If you are DWC don't even mess around with that shit, number one seedling killer right there

I plant my seedlings once they crack and have an inch taproot directly into my netpot and neoprene insert. Much better results than rockwool, ditched that crap my second grow.

Here is a couple seedlings starting out

    and roots way later on

  16. Oh and no dome really should not be needed for seedlings,y clones usually don't even need one to be honest. I never use one and have 100% germ rate so far. Knock on wood.

  17. as above, rotwool is not necessary and won't do you any favours. The worst dam stuff that ever broke in to the hydro scene

  18. I'm no pro by any means, but this is the best way for me: use a small container, fill with dirt from yard. Before you put the seed in, soak the soil. Not muddy, bug totally wet. Use a pencil for small 1/4 deep hole and plant. In my limited time growing I'm at 90% success rate and mostly used old bagseed.
