Regarding background checks and yet-to-be charges

Discussion in 'Marijuana Consumption Q&A' started by LordXela17, Jun 4, 2015.

  1. I got a job working at Walmart and have already successfully subbed a drug test. Now as I await the results to reach them along with the background check, something kinda dawned on me. I was arrested back in November for possession under 2 oz. in Texas, and am STILL yet to go to court for it (thx Tx. legal system, gg). Now my question is am I screwed? Will this show up on the background check, and if so, what as? A conviction, pending charge, etc? After the interview I had to fill out a questionnaire and one question asked if I had pending charges, but I felt that was open to different interpretation, like pending charges as in charges that I am still in the process of paying off, charges that I have yet to receive, etc. so I just put no (probably would have been kicked out of the room if I had put yet anyway). So guys, what am I looking at here? [IMG]

  2. A future application at Target?[IMG]

You'll find out soon enough I guess.

  3. do they ever actually look into that stuff? i don't know about your city, but the walmart employees here don't seem like they are law abiding citizens

  4. It depends man.

If it's just a pre-employment background check, they just want to check on your work history and ask prior employers whatever questions they're allowed to ask. Usually when you worked there, if you gave 2 weeks when you left, and if you'd be eligible to be rehired. Maybe a credit check as well.

If it's a criminal background check, they'd find just about any interaction with law enforcement as far back as their records go. Tickets, accidents, and definitely open criminal cases.

Either way you would've had to have signed a release form to conduct a bg check and it would've outlined the scope of the investigation- you could have gotten a carbon copy of that form.

I'm not sure what Wal-Mart's policies are. So it's hard to say whether or not a pending small possession charge would rule you out- but a lot of these tests are to rule out violence more than anything else. I know quite a few people with past possession charges that have still gotten jobs there. They'd at least call and let you know if your bg wasn't up to par.
