(HELP NEEDED) Australian Growing Season

Discussion in 'Growing Marijuana Outdoors' started by j00ch4n, May 13, 2015.

  1. Hello, I know that it may be a bit late to grow outdoors now as it is almost Winter in Australia, where the daily temperature is around 9-19 degrees Celsius. I have read that as the 12/12 cycle occurs, the plant will begin to bud. If I plant them now, where the cycle is around 10/14 (light/darkness), will the plants begin to bud or will they just grow and bud at the next 12/12 cycle (start of Spring)?

Check my grow dude, am in perth, planted late also, they look identical to my last run (early summer)...from what I've read a plant won't start producing flowers until mature enough which is about 3 weeks in, which for my situation is perfect as I want smallish plants (I use 200ml pots) still hoping to pull 2 half oz at least from my 2 plants... am gonna put 2 more down next week may need a bit of covering during the winter but I think they'll come good with a bit of TLC!!

Here is the most simple rule.. Outside cannabis will only veg 2 months.. Northern Hemisphere that's June and July.. Southern hemisphere is Dec Jan.. The rest of the year it's to short a day to long a night and it will flower..
Now that is not a bad thing once you understand how the plant works.. To keep it in veg it needs longer days.. More then 14.5 is the general time cannabis actually triggers at.. 12-12 is an inside number and means nothing to an outside grower..
As long as it doesn't freeze in winter where your at you can flower outside all year long.. Grow the plants under lights inside till they are 24 inches - 600mm tall then stick them outside to flower.. Your other option is to light them up outside.. Even a well placed porch light on all night can  be enough to keep a plant in veg stage.. I've done it with a 70 lumen solar yard light so it doesn't take a huge amount of light..

It never freezes where I am and even frost is a rare sight but even that can be gotten by with covering on predicted frosty nights..

  5. Seeds can be started about a month sooner as it takes about that long for them to become sexually mature enough to become light sensitive..
Clones on the other hand are mature at any size and will flower at just an inch tall at the slightest provocation..

  6. Seeds have arrived guys! Just a few more questions and I'll be confident to go, thanks everyone for the input :). As I'll be growing them outside, I take it I'll need to attain a lighting system to emulate light to compensate for the current season; what lights (type/specs/amount) should I buy? I will be growing 5 plants. Thanks again everyone!

It really doesn't matter much what type as your not growing under them just keeping the plant awake at night.. A simple compact flouro light will do it.. Even an old fashioned incandescent will do this kind of job..
Keep in mind that cool outside winter temps will drastically slow your veg cycle.. Cannabis likes it warm to hot for rapid growth.. Your best bet is to veg under T5 High Output 6500k daylight lamps till they are 24 inches - 600mm tall then put outside to flower..
I get my vegging done in an old garden shed and just let the lights run 24-0.. it stays enough warmer then outside they veg up nice and fast.. You don't need a very big space for this stage or HID lights..
As for your seeds you'll want to sprout them inside where it's warm but get them under the sun or light as soon as they break ground so they don't get all leggy to soon..

The longer you can veg the bigger the final plant will be..
