Hi all, today marks week #3 of flowering for a single Hawaii Maui Waui I'm currently growing by Nirvana seeds. For the past week I've noticed a gradual yellowing on the lower, oldest fan leaves which has led me to believe she may need a dose or two of N to continue a healthy life cycle until harvest. I have some Alaska Fish Fertilizer 5-1-1 that I could use, but it doesn't directly say that it's organic on the bottle, and I'm concerned about destroying the biological material in the soil. I also have some blood meal, but from what I understand it can burn your plants if it hasn't had time to break down with the soil. So, has anyone ever successfully used these items in a pinch? This will be my 2nd photo period grow ever, so any help would be appreciated.

I'm growing in a 2.5 gallon smart pot in Happy Frog, amended with dolomite lime, azomite, worm castings, and bone meal. I started in a jiffy pellet, and before transplant I applied BioAG VAM to roots. When I water I use ph'd Botanicare Liquid Karma, and mix in molasses once a week to feed the soil. Also I'm unsure if this info is needed or not, but I'm growing in a homemade box under a 150 watt hps light.  I have adequate air flow to keep the plant about 7 inches from the light, while canopy temperature ranges 75 to 80 Fahrenheit with humidity staying in between 40 to 50 %. For reference the breeder says this particular strain will take 9-11 weeks before finishing, so I still have a way to go.

Thanks again for any input offered.

  2. I've never used blood meal but it burns your plants because it's available immediately. Just try a teaspoon or two per gallon so if you have a 3 gallon try 1.5 teaspoons and see what happens. You can always add more. Another common problem with N deficency is overwatering which can also make nitrogen unavailable. Alaska fish ferts are not organic because the way they make it as it's a biproduct and it's not as good of quality as fish hydrolysate. Blood meal or hydrolysate should help. I'd go with the fish as I've used it and it works quickly.

  3. Thank you for your suggestion, more than likely I guess I'll sprinkle a minute amount of the blood meal around the base and see if it improves. I forgot to mention that I do have some worm castings left over, npk is 1-0-0. Do you think a top dress with that alone would be enough to cause an improvement?
