My last day or two before harvest (my 1st grow / pictures) I need professional advice.

  1. Hi growers,

According to the 6-8 week schedule of flowering that is required by my Royal Seed plant, I have a day or two left before I harvest.  The trichomes have most all turned cloudy and I now see a few amber trichomes popping up, mostly in the lower fan leaves.  Although I would not say it is a 50/50 split yet (meaning 50% amber, 50% cloudy).  I'd say it is still more dominantly cloudy trichomes, especially on the very top of the buds (no amber yet, just cloudy trichomes).

From my research, I am told that best to wait when it is 50% cloudy, 50% amber, so that's what I planned to do.  Does that mean all over the buds?  Like the very top of the bud?

Question #1 - The soil is getting dry.  Should I flush again, knowing I have a day or two left before I want to harvest.  Should I dry the hell out of it, so the plant turns yellow and sucks up all its nutrients it has?
Question # 2 - Day before I harvest, should I give it 24 hours of darkness?
Question #3 - Should I flush it again, and wait a few more days until it is a 50% cloudy, 50% amber mix in the trichomes?

    Thank you for your help!

It sounds like you may have a while to go yet. can you put up a photo?

I wouldn't wait for 50% of the trichomes to amber off, probably more like 10%-20% for me. But only on the bud. I ignore the leaves.

    1) probably no need to flush but don't add any nutes, so just plain water. Drying the soil out won't get the plant to use more nutrients, I'm not even 100% sure what you mean by that.

    2) no, this will certainly have no effect on anything.

    3) you aren't going to have the trichomes changing in that sort of timeframe, and no, there is no need to flush if you already have, but it's not going to harm anything if you did

    Edit....

Sorry, I only now just saw the photos. You have 1-2 weeks left before peak ripeness, and probably closer to 2

  4. wow, very interesting!  I thought another day or two, but it seems like you guys are all saying another week or two!!!  Also thanks for letting me know to look only at trichomes on the buds, and not the fan leaves to analyse the trichomes.

  5. Don't even worry about harvest times until most or even all of the pistils have died back. After that the calyxes will swell up, and then it's worth looking at trichomes

  6. Interesting observational technique to follow by.  First time I heard that.  Every forum says "look look look look" at the trichomes with a 30X to truly know if ready to harvest.  I was curious about the last swell that happens, and wasn't sure if it happened already or not.  So I guess according to everyone who has responded, the last swell has not occurred yet.

Should I continue using just PH'd water till the end now?

It's true that the trichomes are the best indicator, but you are looking at them maybe 2 weeks too soon. You can obviously keep checking them but you will be checking for a while yet

I probably would use just water from now on if the plants are looking healthy. But if you have a lot of yellowing from low nutes then maybe another feeding would be worth doing.

Have a good look at the bud and you will probably be able to notice a few calyxes that have swelled up and are much bigger than the others. You want all, or at least most swelled up like that. The bud will have a much firmer appearance, like this...

  8. Thanks brother for the much appreciated advise. I will wait until I feel/see the callyxes have filled up. Yeah, I'm starting to get yellowing on the plant. Maybe another feeding will do with nutrients.

Thanks and I'll keep an eye on them. Don't want to harvest before they plump up! ;)
