Hi everyone I just wanna say that I'm excited to join this forum and this looks like the best place for getting amongst people with good knowledge.

I have done a few grows in the past but many years ago. I did 2 indoor grows and 2 outdoor grows and
under great guidance produced some very good yields. Only problem was that I only ever grew from bagseed with very crappy low THC genetics hence I never produced a high quality smoke. Now that I look back I don't think I was drying it properly, I would hang dry but would be dry too quickly.
What I did learn from my experience is that the best way to go for me is to grow the plants in ground with good soil mixed in with lots of coco coir, lots of sun, and using a & b hydro type nutrients. It is such a cheap way to grow and the plants explode with growth compared to using normal soil nutirents.

Now I've been doing some research and thinking about growing in the future but using the best seeds I can buy. I would just absolutely LOVE to be able to produce my own high quality smoke. Now from my research I've found that for good tasting smoke, apart from needing good seeds, it is cucial to give a good flush and a perfect dry and cure.
Now the dry and cure isn't a problem, I've found plenty of info on that. It's the flushing part that I haven't found specific info on.
Note that for me taste is nearly everything, although I'm a pothead and love to get high, if the only weed around tastes bad I won't buy it even if its potent. I've actually been smoking with a special laser for nearly a year now and have accustomed my taste buds to pure quality dankness. Hence anything that will affect the taste is super important.

I wanna hear from those that do believe in flushing because I know there's lots of people that say flushing is a myth and doesn't affect the taste. Most people can't taste the exhaust fumes from a lighter when smoking a bowl so I really don't believe that flushing is a myth. I think there's just lots of people who have gotten used to smoking harsh sub par quality bud and just can't tell the difference. Like when I used to use a lighter to smoke I could never actually taste the lighter fumes. Only after a couple of weeks of using hemp wick did the lighter exhaust become so obvious, literally like night and day. Now that lighter taste completely ruins any bowl for me so I opt not to use one.

So my thinking is that flushing should start 1 month before harvest time in order to really get the nute taste out. Is it important when flushing to starve the plant enough so that the leaves all turn yellow? Just from past experience I think this may be hard to achieve with in ground plants compared to plants in pots. They may need a real good flushing to really starve them. Any thoughts on this? Could there be any risk involved with trying to really starve them? Like using lots and lots of distilled water to try and make the leaves turn yellow. I know when growing in pots it's good to starve them enough so that most of the larger leaves turn yellow. Also note that I wouldn't overfeed them while they grow, only a standard feeding of hydro nutes every 10-14 days. From experience this is enough for super healthy plants with explosive growth.
So to summarize I would like to be able to properly starve them enough to make most of the fan leaves turn yellow but I'm a little concerned since this will be hard to achieve with in ground plants. So I'm worried about any potential risks there could be with too long of a flush.

    Cheers

  2. Just flush them for a week or 2 and I don't wait for all the fan leaves to go full yellow or die off and my shit turns out smooth and flushed.

  3. Outdoor and indoor plants behave differently with a flush. Usually indoor plants will yellow much more rapidly especially when use chemical nutes that breakdown fast. Usually my fan leaves will turn yellow first and the sugar leaves will remain fairly green. I use organically amended soil so I don't have to flush nowadays.
