Purple stem?

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by oakley101, Feb 22, 2015.

  1. Adopted this plant from someone who didn't take care of it. Not in the best health. I got a good light on it and some ventilation, and I checked it today and it had purple stem? I have no clue what it is. Any advice?

  2. I don't know sorry, google it? But please LST :p

We call him Chief Kief now

  3. If you can get your hands on some seeds, I would say toss it and start another...

That said, your best chance to save it would be to replant it, burying the main stem so there's only the top 8" or so above ground. Make sure there's perlite mixed in that soil, and make sure there are a bunch of holes in the bottom of that bucket. Feed it some nutrients, whatever you can get your hands on (but use low doses until you know how the plant will respond if using cheap fertilizer).

The last issue... you say you have a good light on it now, but it doesn't look that way from the photo. What light do you have on it?

  4. This plant is screwed.  It has had a real stressful time, it has stretched sooooo massively, look at how many nodes have totally died back.  It's only producing single leaves because it is so strung out.

The purple stem thing is usually, in my experience, one of the symptoms of chronic overwatering or low pH.  Probably that's because the bucket has no drainage and the soil is too heavy?

There's a little shoot growing out from neat the base. Apart from starting again, I think your best bet is to cut the whole thing back to that, turn it out of the pot and cut away about 2/3 of the roots, and repot it as though it was a rooted clone in new soil.  I do it to my mother plants all the time, as long as they have a leaf to draw the sap up from the roots they will bounce back surprisingly well.

  5. Damn thats one ugly looking plant, no offense.

You can save it, keep it in veg and LST the shit out of it.

    Also get more CFLs

  6. The dirt looks muddy wet. Get some decent soil and transplant. Add about 3 more bulbs and it should recover.

  7. It's not really worth saving imo but the purple does look cool. It's probably from cold temps but I wouldn't be surprised if it turned male on you

  8. It may not be worth saving, but It's worth trying. Buying more cfls and a better pot with better drainage.
