Long Term Storage of Bud

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Distrex, Feb 20, 2015.

  1. Now, keeping in mind that I have smoked more than a little herb tonight, I had a quick question.  My first harvest is just around the corner, and I am very excited to try my very first, home grown organic bud!  But I was wondering if anyone had any recommendations for long term curing and/or storage, so I'll be able to smoke it a year, two years, (more?) down the road.

I think it would be great to be able to store my very first harvest to try several grows from now to look back and see how far I've come.   Haha.

Thank you for your time :D

  2. Curing, use Bell jars or mason jars.
Long term storage in those is good for 6 months, if you're not constantly dipping in, so if you use them for long-term storage, use smaller jars, and load each with no more than what you'd smoke in a month...by the time the month's ended, what you've been dipping into will be a bit dry, but still good enough.

But the important thing, really, for long term storage is: keep it in a dark space, around 60-70 degrees (or down to 40, but I don't suggest going that cold), don't expose it to natural air too often, once fully cured. So any airtight container kept in a cool space that holds a small enough amount that you won't be constantly exposing your bud to fresh air, several times a week, for multiple months, works fine.

I use little 1 cup latch style rubber gasket jars for mine. Works great, I have some that I ground and jarred MONTHS ago that still hasn't all been smoked up, because I got my hands on strains I liked more....still nice, tasty, and green. Been using it, and other "almost empty" jars to make custom blends for joints with my gaming crowd....seeing as the crowd is mostly folks who grow, or work for dispensaries, if they're complementing the results, the bud's storing well <grin>

  3. And longer than six months, use a vacuum sealer. It will compress your weed but unless you are trying to impress a bunch of stoner snobs, everyone will get high.....the freezer is fine. Can last for years.

  4. I have an accessory to my vacuum sealer that will seal a mason jar.  I vacuum seal then put in a dark place with stable temperature.  Good luck with the harvest.

  5. Get yourself some of these put one in each jar
Try claim to keep your stash perfect for 1+years . I recently started using them and wish I found them sooner
