New Grower has seedling problem - white tips...Please help

  1. Hi all,

So I'm a brand new grower using a space bucket. I planted my seed, un-germinated, on Sunday and she popped her head above the soil on Thursday. Looked healthy! I'm growing her in coco coir and I've watered little by little since she's in a 3 gallon Smart Pot and kept the soil slightly moist, but not wet.

She looked to be doing great, but then the little serrated leaves start to turn upwards. I thought this might mean she needs more light so I turned on a 40w CFL and 2 23w CFLs as well as a fan.

Since I'm growing in coco coir, I added 1 teaspoon of Canna Coco A + B and 1/2 teaspoon of Cal-Mag to 2 gallons of water. I then only used about a 1/2 cup of water to water the area around the seedling.

I've been pH'ing the water to around 6-6.5 as best I can.

Now, on Saturday, she's starting to turn her serrated leaves up even more, with a slight curl, and the edges seem to be a bit white.

Can anyone help me with what I should be doing differently? How can I help her survive?

    Thanks in advance.

  2. Please help. This is my first grow so I'm trying to figure out how to make sure they live. And for future grows. Thanks.

  3. Whats the temp

  4.

68-72 F in the apartment. I don't have a thermometer for the bucket. I originally had only the side LED strips on and it felt warm, not hot, to my hand. When I switched to the 40w and two 23w CFLs, it was definitely warmer in there, but the fan helped cool it and overall it wasn't hot to my hand.

  5. Hmm you should definately get a $10 thermometer in there to get the high and low of the room... Curling up leaves is sign of heat so maybe that could be it?

  6. I grow with sunshine advanced mix #4. Why did you put anything in your coco coir? Chill out wait like 2-3 weeks to give it anything at all. Your plant is still feeding off the seed it just broke out of. Get a ppm meter or ec meter to check level of nutes that you add in future. Best of luck and remember chill out and don't add anything for a while.

  7. Yep, keep the lights dim, and leave it alone..

  8. I don't feed seedling anything for weeks, it will stunt their growth. Those fat round cotyledons stock up enough nutrients to get you through.

I'd water with distill water asap and then don't water again until that container get light weight.
