Ignorant Budtenders...

Discussion in 'Marijuana Business and Industry' started by ThatWeedGuy710, Sep 24, 2014.

  1. who else is tired of walking into a MEDICAL dispensary only to find that the good looking guy/girl behind the counter knows NOTHING about marijuana?!?! basically telling me they were hired because of there looks... who cares about looks?! were there to pick up medicine... and whats with the ads for bikini bud tenders... c'mon now.. is this only happening in the SoCal area? or what? why dont they hire people who actually care about the patients and the quality of the cannabis? im all for the legalization of marijuana, but honestly if its gonna come down girls in bikinis who know nothing about marijuana...shit, ill just move back to my home town and get it from the local street dealer...

i just had to rant... i realize that the above ^paragraph/cluster phukk^  probably looks sloppy as hell as because i was so upset i was just trying to type as fast as possible ha...

glad thats off my chest.  :bongin:

  2. i agree with you 100% but then again not everybody is using it medicinally, lets be honest here. it does suck for those that are interested in genetics and %'s and such, and even worse when ive been next to patients who desperately need something specific for their condition and the budtenders just say "oh just get the _____ kush or _______ cookies (you fill in the blank with any random word), its soooo fire." ive stepped in and helped them based on what little i know, but i may be searching for the same pain relief properties or help with anxiety.

dont get me wrong i smoke to get high like alot of people but i respect its medicinal benefits, as should everyone. im only 18 and i feel like i have more cannabis knowledge then half the owners of these places, im not trying to brag im clearly saying what the hell is going on and how are these places even still in business?? ive been trying to get a job at a dispensary for 6 months now... i even call and check up on my applications, and ive even seen places fire one ignorant bud tender, and then they go and hire another, all based on LOOKS i may not be the best looking but i will bet anything people who actually care about marijuana would much rather hear me telling them facts and where the bud came from, how it was grown, its medical benefits, if it was cured properly, rather then walking in and listening to the bud tender say 'oh yea its some fire' to every strain you ask about...

  4. this very much bothers me, a lot of us want to have knowledge on what were smoking.genetics, effects, how it was grown, etc. most cant even tell you the difference between indica and sativa besides that ones sleepy and the other is uppy. i've had moronic individuals tell me indicas improve your appetite, when in reality its strain dependant for most of the ailments it helps.

though i could be biased that i was passed over by the collective i help at for a double d blonde ditz. she actually thinks cannabis straight up "cures" all medical issues with enough intake. not helps, completely cures, girls a idiot.

  5. socal dispensaries are a fucking joke.

these miscreants dont give a damn about you.

  6. they can easily improve, but simply choose not to, they have tons of people who would love to run those places right but all get shut down because of LOOKS

  7. Eh, if I spot somebody at their job who has no business working in that field, I'd call it out. Maybe next time you guys spot an ignorant budtender, go up to the person who runs the joint and be like "Look. S/He has no idea what they're talking about. You can't have people like that in a profession like this. It could lead to your consumers getting the wrong strain and having a total freakout, or accidentally ingesting too large a quantity of edibles. This is a safety risk, not just a preference thing. Do it right or I will take my money elsewhere."

It'll have 1 of 2 reactions. Budtender is fired and replaced, or you are laughed at and told to go ahead.

  8. This is why medical dispensaries need more restriction. If they are dealing with medicine make them have to have the same training and qualifications as pharmacists.

  9. In all seriousness... I would just completely expect answer number 2 from all these dispensaries...

But I will call out the next ignorant bud tender to see what happens, when I do I will post results to that on this topic

  10. Well more people need to do it. I would do the same thing at an auto shop if the employees were morons too.

  11. that may be taking it to far..IMO, but i like how you're thinking. And yes there should be some kind of qualifications.

Hey guys... Same BS in CO. Med dispensaries...
I've been using Cannabis in almost all forms to for 18 months now to ease the pain of a damaged nerve in rib. I see the same thing here; absolute ignorance! I'm hoping it's just a ineffective trend. Just yesterday an old man hobbled into a med shop with some kind of cancer. The semi-cute girl behind the counter (stoned btw) handed him a tincture. She did not ask or offer any viable answers, when he asked if it would help. I felt terrible... I wanted to jump in there and recommend something more, but I didn't want to get in someone else's business. Now that I've started growing, I've got a better sense of quality, and effectiveness. I won't harvest until closer to late October, so in the mean time I'm at the shops listening to want seems to be info they've heard someone else repeat... In some cases pure bullshit rhetoric.

I'm with you OP on the rant, lol. I also agree with most every other post. Like a lot of things these days... It needs serious Reform IMO. Peace!

OP has a good point.  I've applied to at least 10 dispensaries and not a single call back.  Most budtender postings in Socal (more so in LA) ask for female budtenders.  They don't care about having experience or knowledge....just a cute face.
It's sad when I go into a collective and I know more about the product than the budtender.  I mean at least know the effects of the strain for fuck's sake.  There are a few that know their shit, but most just know how to work a scale.    It seems to be the trend here with only a few collectives that hire truly knowledgeable and passionate people.  I'm still applying to dispensaries maybe someone will overlook that fact that I'm not a pretty female.

I think perhaps it boils down to advertisement of a product. A face to face marketing technique.

I just browsed through an article on WikiP & I was reading...

    The concept:
Sex in advertising builds on the premise that people are curious about sexuality and that experience in marketing has been that sexuality sells products. From a marketing point of view, sexuality can have biological, emotional/physical or spiritual aspects. The biological aspect of sexuality refers to... http://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sex_in_advertising. My best guess is it is profit driven, which if so, stinks, and leaves me to home grown.

Also, some of these shop owners, I think are using traditional business techniques to present a product intended for medical relief. Leave that mess for any recreational shit...

Education & reasonable discussions are a few keys to worldwide legalization. The UN has had many discussions, and will ultimately agree I hope that the "war on drugs", especially that of Cannabis is phuckin' futile.

    Good reads here:

What's the worse or just most ridiculous thing you've heard in a shop?

  16. true i am in LA and 90% of them ask for female/bikini bud tenders, which irritates the shit out of me, and i honestly don't know how that is even legal, can someone clarify? also over learned it is way better to go into the dispensaries and hand in your resume rather then call or applying online, which i have done for the 4 previous jobs I've had before trying to work in the MMJ industry and had never had a problem until now

I've almost never gone into a dispensary and got legit information from the budtenders. I just ask what's selling the fastest and I make them open up all the jars and I inspect them myself.

If I ask for recommendations I always assume in the back of my mind they will suggest something that's selling slowly so I don't trust them anyways.

I have a couple guys I trust though.

Edit: why would you wanna work in a dispensary anyways? Unless I open one it doesn't look that appealing.

  18. What other medication prescribed by a pharmacist is also allowed to be a recreational intoxicant? the stoners are turning MMJ into a joke and the medical side has long been known as the legal way to just get high. This goes to my sad realization that the get high crowed is riding towards legalization on the backs of the ill and sick through those who are sympathetic towards those suffering.

  19. i want to work in a dispensary as a starting point for something bigger in the future, opening a new dispensary is not an option because they have limited the amount of shops allowed per city only true safe open shops are pre-ico i know i would be able to work my way up fast as i have always been dedicated to my goals and will work hard to achieve them, I'm not in it for money what so ever, from what i know bud tenders don't even make that much, and honestly smokers are the nicest people i know and I'm all about the good vibes, and likes i said after seeing the bud tenders here in this city...shit i would rather volunteer my time rather then see people pay these people who are most likely in it for free meds.

I agree it would be a fun environment to work in. You say you'll work your way up but to what? Maybe a manager if it's a large one. I know a couple of people that worked at dispensaries and they made like $5-$8 per hour under the table, no benefits other than cheaper weed.

IMO it appears to be low pay, tedious, and not a lot of room for growth. Fuck it though, life's about being happy and if selling someone else's weed makes you happy then it's the perfect job. Good luck.  :smoking:
