Help Weight Issues From Weed?

Discussion in 'Apprentice Marijuana Consumption' started by Midnight_toker23, Aug 13, 2014.

  1. I'm on the verge of insanity at this point. Please help if you can!

    I'm a 25 year old female, 5'2, 140 lbs

From the age of 16 to 23 I was in a physically abusive relationship (let's not talk about this). Before the relationship at age 16 I weighed 130-135 lbs. My boyfriend got me into smoking weed at the age of 16. I began to lose weight after a few months. For 6-7 years I weighed about 115-120 lbs.

Age 23 - I left him. I weighed myself that same month and was 120lbs. Moved back home. Quit smoking and went on a beer/drinking binge. 3 months after I left him I was up to 145 lbs.

First things first - when I was with my ex for 7 years not only did I smoke but I ate whatever I wanted to - ice cream, fried foods, you name it. AND I didn't work out 1 day out of those 7 years.

When I hit 145lbs I quit drinking, I started eating healthier and working out 4-5 times per week. It's been 2 years and I'm still at the same weight. I struggle constantly to figure out why I was 120 and could eat whatever I wanted and not workout.

Was it because I was an avid weed smoker? Was it the stress that I was under? The only changes I made after leaving him were (1) quit weed (2) binge drink on a freedom rampage because I was finally single. It took 2-3 months to gain 25 lbs.

W T F. I just went back to smoking weed 3 days ago to see if it's the reason why I could maintain that weight.

    Any input?! Thanks!

  2. Probally the weed. Weed increases your matabolism a lot. Also try to go gluten free. Basically wheat, you will lose weight fast as hell and be a lot healthier.

Doctor Somepoe reccommends the chronic medicine

  3. I can definitely say that weed itself is not going to keep you thin. More likely reason is the binge drinking fucked up your metabolism.

Now onto the weight loss issue, what kind of workout do you do? if all you do is an exercise bike/walk on a treadmill then nothing will really change. Now I'm a guy and we lose fat easier than women, not being sexist its just a fact, but I lost 30lbs in 4 months by using the elliptical 5 days a week and lifting weights.

You don't have to go overboard with the lifting, but if you build a muscle base you will increase your metabolism and burn more fat. An added benefit, if you do squats you will have an ass like a gymnast.

  4. any chance of some pictures to see what you are working with? Body type/symmetry and all that.

  5. Pics or it didn't happen

It could be a plethora of things.

It could be due to the amount of sex you had with your ex-boyfriend (if at all), which directly correlates with both stress and physical activity.

    • "While the immediate . . . response to acute stress can be a temporary loss of appetite, more and more we are coming to recognize that for some people, chronic stress can be tied to an increase in appetite -- and stress-induced weight gain," says Elissa Epel, PhD, University of California (collected from WebMD, because "you may have cancer"â„¢)
It could be your metabolism beginning to slow down, completely unrelated to your break-up! I know a guy who was 6'' 135 lbs throughout his teens and once he hit 22 he started slowly bulking up. At 28 he's now 183... and it's not all muscle, if you get me.

Or it could be something completely unbeknownst to us, and even you! Something that would require an external observation of someone who's been around you long enough for the past 3 years.

  7. Yeah the drinking was pretty bad and lasted for a few months. Before the binge drinking, I probably drank 1-2 times per month. When I say binge, I was probably drunk 4 nights out of every week - and most of the time it was Bud Light .. not the best choice.

I did CrossFit and followed a strict paleo diet for 7-8 months (if you're not familiar with Paleo, it's a diet with basically meat, veggies and healthy fat). I gained a lot of muscle and leaned out a bit but I still wasn't where I wanted to be. I quit CrossFit last month and went to Yoga which I do about 5-6 times per week now - still combined with a Paleo diet. I can't say that I eat clean every day because I don't. I'll do good for 3-4 days then eat bread, peanut butter, ice cream, whatever I can get my hands on because I feel deprived. I'm too scared to go back to drinking so I don't even go out with my friends anymore, it's depressing.

I just want to get back to 120, drink with my friends (maybe once on the weekends, nothing crazy) and have an occasional ice cream date. My life is miserable right now because I can't do any of this :(

  8. Thanks. I did consider age/metabolism to be a factor .. but this literally happened within 2 months of leaving him. So all I can think of is either quitting weed or going on that drinking binge for a couple months. I'm trying to figure out if I should go back to smoking weed because I'm not sure if that's what will help me lose the weight. I don't know I'm freakin lost.

  9. bread isn't really an issue if you stick to whole grains. Peanut butter is ok in moderation, as well as frozen yogurt. The problem with diets is most of them don't allow you a cheat day. IMO having 1 day a week where you can eat pretty much whatever you want will help you stick to the diet longer.

  10.
Well, if it continues to worry you, I'd try and consult a doctor. I understand that at 5'2, 140 lbs might not what you're comfortable with or used to. In the end, we're a bunch of high guys and gals who really aren't too qualified to give too in-depth biologic advice.

I don't think the drinking binge would help the situation, and I don't think cannabis would either. Mostly because alcohol directly leads to weight gain, and cannabis does so in a more indirect manner (you get hungry and stuff your face lol).

This might sound insensitive, but have you tried upping your workout routine? Maybe your body just needs more work than you're giving it.

i have sound advice on this matter: expend more energy than you consume and youll lose weight.

fact of the matter aside from the why is you were maintaining before, gained weight, and are now still just maintaining. you need to expend more or it wont change. weed isnt going to have a huge effect on metabolism one way or the other. ive seen studies that suggest subtle change, but nothing a little extra diet and exercise wont easily make up for.

if anything id think your increased age has much more to do with the metabolic change.
