250 Watt Hps Ballast Questions

Discussion in 'First Time Marijuana Growers' started by Furguson420ATW, Jun 3, 2014.

  1. I'm a new grower and my parents are bitching about the electricity the 250w high pressured sodium bulb will be putting off. They say it's too much. I've tried explaining that's what the ballast is for, they won't listen. As long as I have a 250w hps ballast it should be fine right? If anyone has any knowledge about electricity and ballast let me know.

is the problem the cost? if the ballast only uses a 120v household plug then I don't get what the issue would be?? Do they maybe have a problem with what the light is for?? or are you talking about heat issues?

  3. Theres not one that's what I'm trying to tell them. They dont care bout growing, for some reason they find things to gripe about. I told them the same thing I just wanted to make sure I was right.

At 12.2 cents a KWh, which is the US national average, it will cost 55 cents a day to run a veg schedule of 18/6 with a 250w. This of course doesn't account for the electricity needed for air circulation and ventilation.

  5. Hell yeah I appreciate it bro!!! Thank you this was exactly what I was lookin for

NP check back though, I edited the post using the national average cost.

You can find your state's average here if you'd like: http://www.eia.gov/electricity/monthly/epm_table_grapher.cfm?t=epmt_5_6_a

  7. Alright I will. One more thing I was curious about, I've ordered the wing reflector and socket and the 250w bulb but havent ordered ballast yet. Will a 250w ballast kit do the job?

  8. It should, but really make sure. Got a link to the socket you ordered?
