What are my buds going to look like? What to look for when ready to harvest

I have a few different plants left in my tent, I have 8 to chop tomorrow. I noticed that they were in different stages of swell and I took a few macro shots. I'll post this for the guys that have posted recently about when to chop. Hopefully, like always, this helps at least one person here make the right decision.

These plants are all grown from seed under a 400W LED. There were a total of 12 in the tent. The other 8, different strain of clones, had a shorter timer so I pulled them for a couple of days of light deprivation. The seeds are from a handful of "GDP" seed a dealer friend gifted me. No real info on where they came from, but they all have a deep purple characteristic that makes me believe he was at least not all full of BS.

These are pics of my current girls in finish stages:

This one is close to done, buds are swollen and sugar leaves look "short". You see more bud than leaf. At this point, you want to start checking trichs for your choice of high from cloudy to % amber. I won't cover that since it's been beaten to death.

This one is right behind the first, the pistils have receded, but the buds still have a little swelling to do.

This one has started it's swell, but the leaves still have some "length". I'd give it a week or so and check again for how close it is to number one, fully swollen.

...and this bitch, the one I can't WAIT to smoke is taking her sweet ass time!

Here's a pic of all of them still in the tent:

I'm not a professional grower, my buds are small, but they serve my purposes. I can answer any questions about MY grow, but my opinions are a lot different than most of the "pro" grower population. Take your chances! (I also may be completely baked so all info should be considered null and void)

EDIT: One thing I forgot to add... some strains may do NONE of these things, so it's a good idea at about 50 days or so do a spot check on the buds and look closely at the trichs. I also added some pics of the overall plants and what they look like.

  2. Added some new pics of the whole plant that the bud belongs to.

  3. Great looking plants, I'm guessing you topped them when they were quite small? How long after topping did you switch to 1212 ?

  4. I topped them all at different times. They're all GDP, but different phenos. Thanks for the compliment!

  5. Isn't marijuana a beautiful plant. I almost feel guilty for smoking it but that guilt doesn't stay long at all. I watch this video a lot. It has cool music too:

I totally agree with The Letter 3 AND this is funny too >>>> Take your chances! (I also may be completely baked so all info should be considered null and void)

  6. Can I get a mod to move this to the harvesting and processing forum please?

  7. Is it possible for tricomes to mature early if nutrient lockout happens?

  8. Is that a full spectrum 400w LED fixture or are you using a lens filter / photoshop to make it white? I see the reflections are blown out green, that's weird.

  9. I used my camera to adjust the white balance so I don't get purple pics.

They look really good. Too bad the iphone doesn't AWB very well, I'm too lazy grab the big boy camera for quick shots, but maybe I'll test it and see what happens.

What color is your LED fixture, purple / fuchsia? and what do you set your WB to?

Anyone use those red blocker HPS sunglasses?

  11. I was lucky enough to get a "good" camera for Xmas. The WB is automatically set when you take a pic of a white piece of paper in the target lighting. Here's what it looks like under normal lighting. ImageUploadedByGrasscity Forum1396634426.740855.jpg

  12. Yeah that's very very purple! And since the LEDs aren't full spectrum you're missing the greens, yellows, reds, blues etc. The camera seems to be handling it very well though! I think your plants would look a lot more natural green with full spectrum lights. I don't think they would look as dark or unsaturated in normal light. I could be wrong, since I only dabble a little bit in photography.

Yup, the white sheet of paper sets a custom white balance more precise than the AWB, the other way is manual WB where you set the actual kelvin of your lights, I use that sometimes too, very helpful.

I was thinking about pulling the trigger on some of those HPS glasses to wear in the room and use as a iphone camera filter.  Have you ever used them?

  13. I'm not a photographer, I just like taking pics of my plants. The camera makes it easy, wi-fi, image stabilization, image modifications, etc. I've only ever used sunglasses, but grow lights have never really bothered me.

  14. I have a few questions, sorry if it's obvious, but I'm still learning.   What kind of pots are you using? What is that under your pots (brown pellets)?
and my last one...Did you put rocks in your soil for aeration? I see a few pretty good size rocks in the top of one of the pots.

  15. hydroton, net pots with smart pot liners, donno about his mix.

These are the pots. http://growershouse.com/pots-trays/pots-net-pots-mesh-pots/fabric-bags?c2c_brand=7804 Looked like a good idea when I got my setup, but I've changed my setup and I'm going with something different soon. @[member="Navarone"] is correct, 2" of hydroton to drain into my tray and catch runoff/moisture. Kinda dry here. Soil mix is regular FFOF, compost, EWC, and big chunky perlite with organic amendments. I only grow them about 2' max so this works well for me.

EDIT: Here's better pics of the entire setup.
