Hello, I have a 600w magnetic ballast that I dont use and I also have the bulb for it but I need a bulb for vegging but can only get my hands on a 600w metal halide, is the 600w ballast ok to run the metal halide bulb? It dont say anything on the ballast. Peace
If its an HPS non switchable ballast then you must use recommended bulbs. 600W HPS actually is around 620W...
I think the only difference on a magnetic ballast is a start capacitor and ignighter on the HPS ballast. It just starts the HPS. It will work. http://forum.grasscity.com/absolute-beginners/1234066-hps-mh-1-ballast.html?p=18399298
i cant switch anything on the ballast, ive just put the bulb in and its been extremely hot on the hood and about 32C above my babies are at 26C though due to fan on them....
Switchable magnetic ballasts simply remove the starter from the circuit to light a standard metal halide bulb.
