How many watts for vegging 20-30 plants?

  1. I am going to be putting some plants outside during season and a couple in an associate's house. My question is, how many watts do I need for vegging the 20-30 seeds I am germinating right now? I would like to get a light off of craigslist that I can use for the house grow later as well. I was thinking two 125 watts I saw for $90.

  2. 2-3 banks of 4' T5 lights should do you for the first month

  3. You can't just buy any lights my friend but here are a few pointers I can give you.
1st-Make sure your seeds are feminized (mersh seeds you will need to sex and it's hard if your new to growing)
2nd-Don't use any bulbs! This is huge! Buy a real growlight. A 600w HPS will solve ALL of your needs and only cost like $200.
3rd-WATTs are not very important. 1st the wattage on the twisty CFL bulbs will not be the correct spectrum for pot. You might be able to "sustain life" with your plants but your always going to have plants turning yellow and dying.

Do it right, basically. For like $800 (over time) you can get 2 600w HPS, a carbon filter, and a good inline fan.. Then you can grow 20 or so plants and have an increadible amount of success.

  4. We are trying to keep the house grow very low budget. Like 4 plants max. I just want to grow the 20 or so seedlings in his house, pick out the best 4 females(I know how to tell them apart) to keep under the lights, and put the rest of them in the woods by me. I have seen on many threads to not use cfls, so I wont. How ever $100 is about the max I would like to spend on the lights. Idk anything about the specifics of lights. The 2 for $90 are below. There is also another ad saying they have a Sunlight 1000 watt MH ballast and hood for $125. Would I need to buy a bulb for this?[IMG]

  5. u need 100 watts per plant to get anything worth while 125 isnt even enough for 2 plants u would need atleast 2000 watts 3000 would be better

  6. for 4 plants just get a 400 watt mh/hps set up

  7. a 250 or 400 watt HID metal halide or high pressure sodium is all you need for a small 4 plant grow..a 150 is really to small for a main light on a single lamp grow..and the 1000 watt is for a 10x10 space and 40 plants and will cost an arm and leg to run 24 hours a day.. even the 400 will add up depending on your elect costs.. here i pay 13 cents per KW to start with .. if i use a lot my cost can be as high as 31 cents a KW..and that will run up a HUGE bill fast..just something to keep in mind before you run out and buy a huge lamp..
