Hey guys sorry if this has been asked before but..... I don't have any Iso alcohol and too lazy to get some at the moment.. I cleaned my water bong with near boiling water, normal salt and a scrapper only, it did a pretty good job except for a couple hard to reach areas... I was wondering if that is good enough? I mean it looks almost new again but can it really be considered clean if I didn't use alcohol? It's looks like 95% cleaner then before.

  2. If it fits your definition of clean then your good.

  3. maybe I should rephrase the question... Okay my glass bong was disgusting, gooped with resin after 1 year of use (at least) with no washing.. I didn't have any alcohol so I washed it with boiling water, salt and a scrapper only. I got nearly all the resin out and it looks almost brand new but I'm wondering, is it actually clean or is there still some gross bacteria or some shit that isn't visible in there from not using alcohol as well?

  4. Do you see any gross bacteria on it? If there was any 'gross bacteria' on it, then that would be health hazard, and marijuana doesn't produce that...

  5. After a year of organic material on the side being exposed towater and sunlight constantly there is most likely some bacteria, or mold.

And I'd say do a few more boiling water rinses and you're good. Boiling water would kill all that, and you've managed to wipe most it off so you're good to hit it man. :smoking:

  6. Yea just let it chill in boiling hot water for a couple minutes then do some more rinses and you're good to go

    Does this work?

  8. You can use boiling water but be careful. If you have cheaper glass constant temperature changes can slowly wear down the durability of your piece. There is no need for salt if you are using boiling water.

  9. Yeap, sure does.

  10. The salt will dissolve in the water, so it is really not necessary. I now use rubbing alcohol and Epsom salt, but if you don't have that then I find that hot water and grain rice will work, if it is just a straight shoot.(no perc) Put about a cup of rice(or less depending on bong size, not too much, just enough so it can easily move around the bong when you shake it) into the bottom of the bong, fill ass much of the bong as you can before it spills over with boiling water, let it sit for about a minute and then empty some of the water out, Don't let the rice sit to long in the water or it will become too soft for the job. Make sure you cover the mouthpiece and bowl piece holes with a lot of cloth/towels and shake it all around, be extra careful as to not drop your bong. The hot water will loosen up the resin, and the rice will scrape it off.

  11. Thanks for the replies everyone... Good stuff. I guess the glass isn't cheap because there was no problems putting boiling water in there, and it did do a good job of cleaning most of the resin goop out too(along with some scraping) . One last question though, I'm gonna get some Isopropanal alcohol and give it a good cleaning with that too but, which type of alcohol is best, the 99% Iso USP or Iso Rubbing Alcohol 70% USP? The 70% bottle actually says antiseptic and medicated cleaner on the front where as the 99% one doesn't(both brands are 'Rougier'). Also, after I finish cleaning it with alcohol is it safe to smoke out of right away? Will giving it a good rinse with water get rid of all the alcohol residue and vapors or do I need to let it sit for a while? Thanks again ppl and happy toking.

    99% > 70%
put some of it in a glass container with no lid and pop that in the microwave for 20 seconds, no longer. take it out and quickly pour it into what you want to clean and shake rigorously (with or without salt) and your piece should be as clean as new.

  13. and what about smoking in it immediately after cleaning with alcohol? Do I just need to give it a good rinse or do I need to give it time to let the alcohol evaporate or whatever?

  14. I wouldnt boil the glass because it makes it brittle

  15. Yeah, give it a good rinse with hot water and it will be fine to toke out of.

  16. I'm doing this right now cuz i don't have iso handy.

Boiling water alone doesn't seem to do much.

I pour a crapload of salt in the bong, let it sit for a bit so it attaches itself to the res to dissolve it, then pour in steaming hot water and rinse.

It's 10 times more work and not nearly the same results as using iso. But it does kinda work...

  17. Bong cleaning needs 200 proof. AKA denatured stove fuel. Toxic but your gonna wash with soapy water after anyhow.

Pure alcohol with zero water with some rock salt for an abrasive it'll sparkle like new again.
I keep a gallon on hand for trimming as it'll clean the goo off scissors faster then anything else.

  18. Fill the pipe/bong with hot tap water, it doesn't have to be boiling, let sit for a few minutes and pour out.

Add a couple tablespoons of salt, and approximately the same amount of rubbing alcohol. You can also add something acidic like lemon juice or vinegar and a couple drops of dish soap. Shake the salt, alcohol, acid, and soap solution. Let sit for several minutes and shake a few more times before rinsing out thoroughly.

If you don't have any rubbing alcohol, you can leave it out entirely, or substitute high-proof spirits. However, the alcohol is the most effective solvent of the resin and will get all nooks and crannies clean.

  19. Get pure orange terpenes. You can by it by the gallon. Throw it into the glass, rinse out after a bit and you're done. Best part is you can reuse the pure stuff over and over by using a strainer to strain out the resin.

  20. Bong cleaning definitely needs more than just water & salt. That's my conclusion, which is what I suspected.

Unfortunately sometimes that's all you have.
