Good show, too bad it ended almost 2 years ago. The Civil War on Drugs was an epic way to go out though.
I heard that the dark ages were totally made up on a show called QI by Stephen Fry. He said that archaeologists had observed no real changes in the architecture or building materials/instruments. Some historians have proposed that the King of the time at around 700A.D. in some place wanted to be King in 1000A.D. so he added 300 years to the calendar and made all chronologists play along with him. There was also a character of the time who was supposedly made up in order to account for some of the time of that period He was apparently so remarkable a man it's unbelievable. It was said he was enormous in height (nearly 7ft or something ridiculous), a great warrior, inventor, amazing scholar, religious icon, you name it. Gah I completely forget his name though, I'll get back to you all. Edit: Charlemagne Edit #2: Not saying I believe it, but it's fun to think about. Maybe 2012 will happen in 2060 or something? A bunch of people changing the record of dates leading to us being 48 years behind.
