You've Been Acting Funny and You Owe Me Money!

  1. Although originally taking place in 1999, I decided to share my story here because it's MJ related. Check it out...

In 1999, I did a little peddling here and there and I had a few buddies that also sold mj. It was three of us. It was me, T and M. T had the hook up, which happened to be his cousin's boyfriend. I knew T, and I was a middleman between T & M. Product went through my hands on it's way to M so I made about $25-$50 on each lb. It was chump change really, I was just doing favors and keeping the work moving. We were scoring lbs of some compressed super mids for 650. The mj was skunky, it had seeds but very few. The only bad thing was that it was reeeeally compressed. It didn't matter tho, everyone loved it and it was a steal at 650 a lb.

Now M was a cool dude, I knew him since high school and at this point in time I was just out of high school. He was a DJ and so was I so we would hang out, and at one point I would even say he was one of my better friends.

I was getting work on the cuff and I decided to give one lb to M on the cuff as well...I know...I know...dumb move. Sure enough, before I see ANY of the money that is owed to me, M decides he's not going to answer my calls or return my messages. Now I thought this was rather odd considering that I actually considered M a good friend. I mean, I knew where he lived. I had been in his room many many times and we would just smoke up and spin records or go shopping for music. Hmmm.... well I had spoken to M's dad on the phone and in person at M's house and he was saying something about M being out of town in Arizona visiting relatives. Something didn't sound right. Why would M pick up a lb of work and leave it in his room while he goes to AZ? Or did he take a whole lb with him to AZ? Either way...it doesn't explain why M isn't returning my voicemails.

Eventually I ended up having to pay for the work I had gotten on the cuff so now I'm really pissed off because I just paid for that lb I fronted to M and I am out $650.. By now weeks have gone by and I realize M isn't ever going to call, I'm going to have to catch him slipping and I'm a pretty big guy (6'2" , 200+) so I can take care of myself. I lived about two miles from M and I worked as a communications contractor in our area at that time so I would pass by often hoping to either come into contact with M or at the very least maybe I could get some sort of an update from M's dad. No luck.

Well one day, I was at work and it was really slow. I had a partner with me that day, F, who also smokes and we would always blaze on our route. Well, we just happened to be around the corner from M's house so I decided to pass by (I was driving). Now at no point did I ever mention to my co-worker F about M oweing me money. So we arrive to M's house and I walk up to the front door while F waits in the work truck. In my head I'm thinking.. "Fuck it, if I get no answer, then M's dad isn't home, and it's just M and his dad that live there...so I'm going to do a little rough justice." I knock. No answer. I knock some more, no answer, so I make my way around the house to M's bedroom window. There is bed linen being used as a curtain to cover the window but I can see in just enough to notice M's DJ equipment is where it always has been. M's bedroom window seemed to have some sort of a lock on it but it opened right up with a little force. I jump in and decide to take what is rightfully mine (M's DJ setup) when low and behold...what the fuck do I see? M's bedroom door is open, and I'm looking right at M with his back turned to me. He is in the living room looking through the curtains to see if I have left yet. Several emotions and thoughts crossed my mind as I stay looking at M from behind. I was amazed he was there, I was pissed I caught him in the act of being a big pussy, and I wanted to kick his ass. As I walk out of M's room and confront him in the living room, I say:

Me: M, what's going on, where's my money?
M: What the hell are you doing in my house?"
Me: Nevermind that, you've been acting funny and you owe me money, you got that?
M: Uhhh yeaaah, let's go to the bank.

It was really pathetic because M tried to play it cool like he had acceptable excuses for not paying me.

Anyhow, I escort M into the work truck and he meets F. lol. We go to the bank and M pays me in full. Once I have my money, I take M back home, good riddance. I then explain to F what had just happened and the history between me and M. He was amazed.

    Good Times.

  2. Very weird of M to just hand you the cash once he had been caught. From personal experience, a situation like the one you and him were in leads to a not-so-pleasant exchange of fists. Good to see he manned up though, and did what was right.

Did you and M ever stay in contact after that, or was it too much of a loss of trust?

  3. Honestly I never expected to see M when i jumped in to the window. I had believed M's dad when he said that M was in Arizona. Either M's dad was covering for M or M had just returned.
Either way, the funny thing is that M had some sort of trust fund account set up for him which was pretty weird because he lived in a really shitty neighborhood. That's why in the end all he had to do was make a trip to the bank to get me my money. He had money at his disposal which is what really made it strange. I had dropped off some work and was supposed to be paid in full within the next few days whenever he made his way to the bank (he didn't drive).

I have seen M maybe two or three times since, kept it cordial but we are no longer friends.
